Thought I would share for the beginers. I'm 52 and just picked up a guitar a month ago. At first learning some of the cords (A,am,D,E,em,C,G) I thought were impossible (I cant get my fingers to do that) (specifcaly the A,C & G). After putting in practice every day, I'm able to play most of the chords clean. Still working on G and C but getting there.

So today I decided I'm going to practice to switch between a,d,e chords without looking.

To my suprise I was able to get the chords correct probably 75% of the time (again didnt think this was possible a week ago).

I guess I'm giving myself a pat on the back, but what I have learned to this point is that you have to embrace the small wins and build upon them.

As many people have said on this site its a marathon not a sprint.

You will improve with practice and patience.

Bottom line keep at it. You will get there. Embrace the wins no matter how small and enjoy the journey.

Good for you.

Your right. It does seem like were climbing a mountain sometimes, but you celebrate the small victories no matter how trivial they may seem along the way. Anders mentions in one of his lessons that you learn to appreciate the guitar player you are now and not focus so much on the type of player you wanna be tomorrow.

Keep at it,

Moe

As well you should. Great job!

This is one of those moments where the light goes on and you're all like; 'I can do this'. Cool thing is, the moment will always be a guide and the longer you play and the more you learn, that is something you will experience many times. When you embrace the learning of the guitar and not the destination, you realize it can be a pretty satisfying journey.

That's great to hear!

I remember when I first started understanding chords and began to play them without looking. I'm glad I learned that early on. Something fun to try sometime.....try playing in the dark, or in very low light. I just love doing that! (Well, did...I'm on a haitus right now due to severe fretting hand pain.) But it really forces you to feel where to go insteand of looking where to go.

“Often, what seems like an impossible climb is just a staircase without the steps drawn in.” Robert Brault, American Operatic Tenor
