I cheat like a bug"*$, maybe you should too

I just realized while playing 1 of my favorite tunes: "Ballad of Dwight Fry", that I cheat the G chord like an absolute bug"$&!

And I don't care lol.

Lately I've seen some posts about the G chord and the frustrating circumstances newbies like us can find ourselves in. As I payed attention to how I played the song, it was a combination of 2 fingers and 3 fingers! With no rhyme or reason distinguishing my pattern.

I'm not sure what you do, but I seem to provide what in the '70s was often referred to as a "reasonable facsimile".

For me I usually start with the four finger version cause I love the sound of it, but then as the song progresses it's whatever version that I can get too. 😊[br][br]

Well that 4 finger version Moe, was introduced to me by Mike in his Wild Horses Made Easy lesson.

I think he referred to it as a "rock 'n roll G"!!!

If it sounds cool, it is cool. Some very wise guy around here said that. Some other mostly wise guy has it as a signature quote.

It is a cool chord. Caren Armstrong introduced it to me in every rose has its thorn by poison. The reason being is if you move the top two fingers down one string each you have the cadd9 chord to make the opening acoustic sequence. Up and down pretty cool. Then Anders showed me that if you keep bottom two fingers on b and e you can move those top two fingers to the Em, d maj, and then up one string at a time up to make a really nice and popular sounding chord progression. I don't remember the names of the rest of those chords though.🥱

I think in Mike's lesson he mentioned Keith Richards. That's got to be cool enough right there

Ballad of Dwight Fry. Wow, haven't thought of that song in a very long time. Wore that album out in the 70s.

Anyway, like I said in another thread, if I am practicing chords, I try to nail them perfectly.

Yup, one of the band's best imo and I do the same thing with the chords when playing. I just try to keep up.
