I've been playing for years and like many others I've struggled to just sit down for a week and cram the fretboard notes into my brain. I've now hit the wall where I'm struggling to progress without having this basic knowledge.

The idea of starting with the FGAB on string 4 has finally opened this up to me. I inherently knew the notes on strings 5 & 6 (and therefore string 1) from playing Barre chords but the middle of the guitar was a hazy mystery. I could play the hell out of it but couldn't tell you what note I was on at any given time. This method fixed that for me in very short order. I hope this helps everyone.
