Most of my guitars are either Yamaha or Washburn, and none of them cost a huge pile of cash. You might want to consider getting an acoustic guitar first, so you can concentrate on learning how to play, without getting tangled up in a whole bunch of options that you have to choose from when you get into electrics. After you get some experience, you'll have a better idea of what you want, (which makes finding it a whole lot easier)!
