Posts: 1[br] Hello! (i'm from Denmark, so if you don't understand some of my english that's why)

I'm 14 y/o and i really want to get into the guitar world. I am not looking to be a famous rockstar or anything, i just want to jam along to my favorite song and learn about/how to play the guitar. I haven't yet bought a guitar or any equipment for that matter. I have some questions i would like to ask someone who might know a little more than i.

1) I listen to all types of music (Rock, Metal, Blues, HipHop/Rap, Country etc.), what type of guitar should i look for? I mostly want to learn how to play rock and maybe some metal.

2) I it possibly for me to learn how to play my favorite song, without learning all the seemingly tricky notes and chords and stuff like that?

3) Is a budget of around $500 enough to get me started?

4) I am originally left-handed. Should i go for a left-handed guitar, or should i just learn guitar the ''normal way'' (right handed)

Thank you!

Hello!

1/ Quite frankly, you can start playing with any kind of guitar. With the kind of music you listen to, you may be thinking more in the lines of an electric guitar, but it has to be your choice. Whatever sound you like best. Also think about the guitar ergonomics, not simply the looks. You need to be kept motivated (guitar looks help), but think that you will spend hours sitting with the guitar in your lap. So a weird looking shape (or even some standard ones such as LPs, which have a weird balance when resting on a leg and quite sharp contours) might not be ideal as a first guitar. The best thing is to try them out (harder under current conditions).

2/ Your fingers will learn slower than your head. So you will gradually pick up the theory as you go along.

3/ More than enough. In electric guitars, you can find a nice starter guitar (Yamaha, Cort, Harley Benton, etc) for under 200 USD + a cheap amp.

4/ That is a complicated question. It depends on how you manage with your right hand. Some left handed people have good dexterity with their right hand. And that would open way more possibilities with regards to guitars to buy, etc. But you need to try first.
