Hey,

Fellow UK resident here. I'm in Scotland and also a 50-something. I must say, this whole situation has really put me off my guitar. I'm just too anxious to think about playing, but it's great that playing is giving a lot of people some relief.

All the best. .👍

Hi dud.roberts. Welcome to our Guitar Tricks forums.

Learning guitar is a 'marathon' too, so you're really swapping one for another really. Should be a natural fit!

Empathise with you. When injury and age caught up with my running days (distance, and I loved it) I switched exclusively to cycling. I'd loved it equally, and so concurrently persisted with it over the years & still have the passion for it. But injury exacerbated by the deterioration which age brings imposes its restrictions there too.

Look after that body. Enjoy your guitar adventure. Cheers.

This is for you Poundhound.

Meant to share it yesterday with all and sundry in Places to Go, Sites to See, but can see now that intention was guided to procrastination keeping it especially for you at this moment.

Of course, be sensible with reasonable preventative precautions within your control re COVID-19, but there's really nothing to be anxious about mate. Everyone dies. Not everyone truly lives. Life's short, just shorter for some than others. A proportionate 'healthy' fear has its place in serving ego's craving for embodied self-preservation, but anxiety other than the fight or flight adrenalin induced hyper-vigilance kind, is a useless and destructive emotion.

Yer, I know that's easy for me to say appreciating it's easier said than done for some, but try to focus mind conciousness elsewhere. To that end, guitar seems a pretty good place.

Cheers

Hello Pound,

These are distressing times. The impact to mental health is a serious issue. From my own perspective I have essentially closed the office as office work can be performed from home. For those in the field, all myself and they can do is to take necessary precautions. By protecting ourselves we protect the community.

For individuals who have lost income, that is another source of stress. For business owners like myself who are dealing with reduced revenue, there is stress.

But we will get through this.

Thank you William and ManXcat.

My own worries are minor compared to most, but it's difficult to put the situation out of mind, despite my best efforts. I'm most concerned about America (at the moment). My best hopes and wishes to the US and my fingers are crossed that the impact, not only in terms of deaths, but also social cohesion is no where near as bad as I fear it will be.

As for your video, manX, this is how I generally exist!😄 The virus hasn't really changed my way of life much. I'm retired so spend 22 hours a day at home, leaving only for shopping and walking. I certainly subscribe to the belief that you don't need to leave your house to have a fulfilling existence.

I think that once some good news starts to appear my nerves will settle. Maybe next week I'll force myself to play guitar a wee bit and take my mind off things.

Apologies to dud. for hijacking the thread with my misery. Stay safe all and happy guitaring.
