Welcome. There are quite a few of us older learners.

Getting our fingers "to cooperate" can take some time. Patience and regular practice will help this.

Good luck.

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!

Yep, there are quite a few of us geezer guitarists on here. I think most of us would admit the learning, coordination comes a little slower now. But we have more time and, more importantly, more determination now.

wengel81, keep us posted on your progress.

Hi wengel81

Similar age here.

Fill your glass to the level of realistic goals, add in a spoonful of patience, stir with perseverence and remember to always savor the flavour of joy of the moment in the doing.

Coordination isn't what it was when we were eighteen, but I've not yet personally discovered that a motor skill impediment of significance, and shouldn't ordinarily be yet unless from previous injury or suffering disabling arthritus.

The one I recognise which is an encumbrance which can't be circumvented until someone formulates and bottles a genuine elixir of youth, is sheer speed with scales and licks due to age accompanying unavoidably diminished reflex.

Chords at any tempo and single line melody at moderate to fast tempo will be fine.

I started here back in 2015. Start the lessons with Lisa and follow the yellow brick road to the style you want. I have a few songs under my belt and am now learning finger style. I have the verse down for "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac.Lisa's fingerpicking lessons have helped me to get the song down. Now the chorus is a completely different story, I am sure with more lessons and studying the song, I will get it. Stay focused and have fun!!

Same here.. I always was a bad student no matter what I studied I always had problems with understanding. I think there's a problem in me not in other people who tried their best to explain me something. Guitar is the only thing I love and something that I want to learn about more and more. It's very cool I should say.

Hi all,

Like Wengel81, I'm late to the game, but am really enjoying it. Still hard to imagine myself actually 'getting it', but I'm encouraged with progress so far. For now, hoping to get by the feeling of fingers that are too fat for the chords, but I guess it's just time and practice.

Nice to know other are or have been in the same place.

Chris from Toronto
