hi
I recently started learning modes and I would like to know how to identify what modes are in a certain tune, for example how would I know how to tell what mode 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' is in.

thank you

Twinkle is in the Ionian mode (major).
You can tell what mode the melody is in by what note acts as the tonic or home base for the melody. I am currently trying to think of a good example of a common melody everybody knows (like twinkle)that is modal but am currently stumped. I'll try to get back to you w/some examples.

I think "Sesame Street" is in E mixo. (actually it varies between mixo and ionian)
