If you have an electric tuner drop your low E string down until it registers as a "D" You won't have to tune it down much so if your strings start flopping around, you've gone too far.
Also keep in mind that if you've got a floating vibrato (a whammy bar that isn't secured in one way or another), the rest of your strings will go out of tune as soon as you start detuning.

Open G, Drop both E's to D, Drop the A to G, there you go,
Open E, Raise the A to B, the D to E, the G to G#, now play "She talks to Angels", or "Little Martha",
Another good one is just dropping both E's to D and slapping on a capo, or not, the sky's the limit I guess.......

Tuning all in 4ths is quite cool I think:
e.g
EADGCF
Because you can get a major triad off each string from harmonics (5 fret = same note as open string but 2 octaves higher, 4th = extra 3rd, 5th = extra 3rd) this tuning lets you play all the major chords in several keys; ADG and C.
Also any shape you learn low down will be the same shape on higher strings. Because of this I sometimes wish I'd started with this tuning instead of standard but it's harder to play chords with.

If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?
