Hi Mike,

I apologize if this has been asked before and I didn't see it in an older thread. I love the videos you make and I appreciate all the detail and hard work that goes into making a lesson video for a particular song.

My question is: On average, how long (hours) does it typically take you to a make a lesson video for a song? I realize that there are variables (song choice, number of guitars, number of sections, etc.), but I was just curious about the process. The detail of the lessons are always amazing. Thank you for what you do!

Aaron

Hey Aaron, thanks so much for the kind words!

The number of hours can vary quite a bit depending on the complexity of the song. For the most part, I'll take a few weeks to learn, prepare, and practice the song before I get in front of the cameras. The actual filming of a tutorial generally takes a half a day, but sometimes can take a full day.

After filming, it gets handed off to a video editor and a transcriber, at which point I'm out of the loop - so I have no idea how long all that takes!! Overall, it is quite an involved process!

Cheers!

Mike

What?? You don't just roll out of bed on any given morning, click on the video camera, get an inspiration and have a completed tutorial done before breakfast, Mike??

OK........now that you're done laughing..........you forgot to mention the super long time it takes to get GT approval for a song and/or get rights or specific artist study. I'd say your nice Pete Townsend study took close to an entire year to get off the ground and completed. There seems to be more and more care of legal infringement situations along with polling the popularity of setting aside GT assets to complete..........and this takes weeks and months........... Haha!! That would be nice!

But indeed, there are also legal requirements to be met with publishers over copyright that also figure into the overall process. So yes, from start to finish - we are talking several months.

Cheers!
