to get familliar with intervals you should try a piano or keyboard - let someone sit there and play a random note and then a second one afer that (within one octave) and you try to determin what interval that was without looking. do the same thing with the standard chords major, minor, dim and aug. this helps ALOT! especially for yer hearing
