dude ive had just about all i can take from my stupid drummer. Heres the story were doin the talent show at my high school so i wrote a song. the chourus and everything sounds awesome, so i decide to write an amazing solo, spend like 3 hours on it in the beginning then i keep changing it and making it sound better and better, so i put a lot of time in this solo. Well i make a CD of the song with just me playing and play it for all my friends they say the solo is awesome. Well my drummer just called me up and said that the solo just doesnt fit the song and that he just doesnt think that its right. And he said that my solo is too long and its only like 20 seconds. I think hes pissed that the attention is off him and on me. Dude im so pissed at him right now i dont know what to do. I mean i would understand if he knew what he wasnt talking about but he cant even hold a freakin beat, he always drops the beat, and he only knows like 3 beats to play, and he hits the damn cymbols way to loud. And hes the kind of person who started playing the drums to be cool not because he loves music. I started playing guitar and fell in love with it and i cant put it down. Well anyway what should i do about this i really think hes wrong because i gotten several opinons who are in my favor.

Sounds like time for a band meeting, it also might help to get together, rehearse the song, work out the kinks, see if any changes need to be made, remember everybody's a critic, band's need to make group decisions, it's hard at times but just as much energy that goes into the music has to go into the band's relationship with each other, most of the time the music is the easy part. Are you usaully the person that brings in new music to the band? If so, get used to this situation, because it's going to repeat over and over, better work on the people skills, you're going to need them...

Time to either get a new drummer or sit this guy down and give him a litle piece of reality.Have a mature conversation about his skills without being mean but be really honest. If he has the desire to be better he'll do it.If he gets an attitude then tell him to join a Creed cover band or something.Don't let a newbie drummer tell you what good guitar is;he's a drummer, duh.

I've been in a similar situation -- I played in a band for several years w/ a drummer who simply played diffrent variations of one beat. During those years I had a very slight idea about playng drums, so I assumed that it is probably very hard to play sth else. Things changed when my school bought a drumset and a friend of mine who was very enthusiastic about playing drums started playing. For six months he was waaaaay beyond the drummer of my band. I began to realize what is wrong with him -- he wouldn't sit on his butt and practise unless we had a rehearsal. He would do anything for the band in his spare time but practice -- he made a web page of the band, a logo -- things that bands usualy do when they have a stable set of 10-12 songs(at least).
So my advice is GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS BAND, OR CHANGE THE DRUMMER. From my experience it is impossible to change a person with such an attitude. You will only waste time, like me, don't repeat the same mistake.
I've spent hundreds of serious conversations with him and every time we both agreed that it is "high time to get serious" and after that things were the same.
The world is loaded, it's lit to pop, nobody is gonna stop!

If you wrote the song its your choice.

Ask the rest of the band what they think
