Hey Gang,
I know this is a bit off topic however Im thinking of getting a new vocal mic. (recording for the use of). Im using an SM58 at the moment and it is OK, nothing special but adequate. I have just come back from Harmony central and ....nothing ! Poooooo !

Im thinking of getting a new condenser (probably a Shure KSM x) and Im wondering if anyone out there has experience of these beasts. Is it going to be worth spending the extra 400 required to upgrade from a KMS27 to a KMS44 ?
For ref. this beast would be going into an ART TPS, a Behringer condenser and then a Korg 1600

Any input would be very cool

cheers

If you're just recording for fun, I wouldn't spend too much money. An SM58 should do the trick just fine, maybe it's something else in your signal path that screws up the sound?

As I mentioned in the previous post, the SM58 / 57 are fine, however if I can squeeze another 5% by using a nicer mic, well cool ! That is why I asked about the condenser mics. There is probably a reason why major studios use them after all !

Would you play a $30 copy strat / LP or a vintage original given the choice ? It is possible (not probable) that the copy would be better but I know where Id go !

So, if anybody knows anything about these beasts please let me know.
