ac/dc tone
what brand and model of amp did angus use back in the day. if he used more than one brand of amp at different times what where those ones also(if anyone knows). thanks.

Angus only uses Marshall 100 Watts Stack Amps..
also from an interview with him he said he never uses anything else except the amp (i.e. no effects or pedals, he plugs his guitar directly into his amp , and have it a little overdriven)
I don't think he used anything else bec. AC/DC sound haven't changed a bit ever since their start (I think they're the only band on this earth that don't believe in change, but they'll always kick ass)

Get yourself a Gibson SG. If you dont have the money, get an Epiphone G-400. You'd be surprised how similar the sound of the two are.

And if you don't have the money for that....at least get a guitar with humbuckers....Crank the amp!

I recently found a Bluesy Rhythm Crunchy type setting on my effects pedal. If you strum the hell out of it, it sure sounds like Angus. Just remember not to stum so hard you rip the strings off the guitar.

a pair of Marshall 100 watt stacks?? PAIR??! as far as I know that one Full Stack 100 watt amp will cost about $2000, which means $4000 for a PAIR !!
I think for home use , a half stack (the head + one cab) amp would be cool enough , also a big combo will be ok.

I agree with all the above - it's a pretty basic distortion sound he's got, dirty and thin rather than smooth and saturated. The gain is cranked up but not so much that you lose the definition of individual strings when playing chords.
If you have an effects unit you can also try some websites that give you settings for different patches. If you do have one then post it in and I'll try to find some sites for you.

I discovered that patch by accident. If ya got any blues settings on your pedals, or blues distorion pedals themselves, you can tweek them to sound more AC/DCish.
