Harmony Guitars
A few days ago I went to a guitar shop and was playing a beautiful Harmony acoustic guitar, can't remember the kind. I was wondering if those are good guitars because I was thinking about buying it, and I heard they weren't. I also saw that JcPenny sells them in their catalogs so that turned me away also. What do ya'll think about them?

okay dude,
if a guitar is sold in a catalog from some major company, that doesnt normally sell guitars, then it most likely sucks. now for whoever reads this, dont get your panties in a bunch... i am sure there have been nice guitars sold at jcpenney or whatever.
also, just as a sidepoint, my uncle had a harmony and it sucked beyond all reason. he hated it, and when i picked it up i hated it, because i am used to my yamaha and takamine acoustics, which both kick ass by the way. But remember, this is only an opinion. so go with another guitarist that you know and see what they think of it when they play it.
and of course, if you like it and feel comfortable with it, then it may just be the guitar for you.

Old Harmony arch-tops are definitely becoming collectable, one in good playing condition with decent tone would be a plus, this should tell everyone something about the "Vintage" market, when yesterdays junkers/ low end models become collectable, the market is out of control.....

I say it doesn't really matter what kind you have (to some extent) as long as you like the sound. But that's just me, and once again what do I know?
# 4
yeah but your ear improves as you play, and the more you play that sweatshop guitar, the more you'll realize that "Hey, this sounds like crap".
# 5
are you certain you will get only an acoustic? have you considered a classical...if you want something more mystical
# 6
the classical sound has something about it which always seems to make it the core of guitar - the kinds of sounds you can lift from it, and it's all about those nylon strings...I might even try 6 nylon strings, that should be fun ;) An acoustic would be insane too for chops since it's a bit tighter to play...

something out of the ordinary, i consider it something like Bob Dylan, sorta weird, not completely normal, etc.

Ya well running into a wall multiple times and shouting,"I am a pretty lady," is weird, but I wouldn't call that mystical. That happened in my journalism class today.

hehehe not actually harmony guitar related but it reminded me of my very first amp. It was called a (now get this) A ROCKTOWN. It was the most god awfull piece of S*it when I think back on it but I loved it at the time.
I say get the Harmony if you can't afford anything else (it's better than nothing). or check out Pawn shps, ebay, want add sections, etc.

I started learning guitar because of Randy Rhoads..but Yngwie J. Malmsteen is my biggest influence.

No ROCKTOWN! KMart special. It was my first amp I ever had...and god it sounded horrible.
Speaking of Rocktron, I have the Intellifex :-)

Harmony is a crap shoot. I've seen good ones but most were terrible. No quality control what so ever.

Yea, ya'll were right. I asked the guy at the store and he said they suck also, so I guess I'll be looking for something else, any suggestions?
