Standard tuning - dumn or what?
You know when you hear a really high pitched noise constantly the previous post gave me on of those spells. Remember to touch your toes.

Look, Im not opposed to philosophy and stuff, but science has proven that we do know something about the reality we exist in. Philosophy questions the way we percieve the reality we are in.
Like I mentioned on another thread, try Lucid Dreaming. If anything will make you contsantly question your reality, thats the ticket.

Science isn't about proof, nor is it philosophically bull****, Karl Popper's philosophy is an important part of modern scientific thought. He felt that science should be about eliminating alternative explanations. By eliminating more and more alternatives you create a theory that mirrors reality and allows you to predict something about the future on the basis of assumptions and measurements.
This unfortunately becomes demonstrably limited if you ask on this basisi if you can prove a disproof, you can't. No sensible scientist ever seriously talks about proof other than as a way of short-hand (it's less cumbersome to say we have proven something than "We have conditionally eliminated all the our imagined, logical alternatives to this explanation".)
The fewer assumptions you make the less likely you are to make errors in what you say but the more you make by missing out important points about reality so whoever said that assumption is the mother of all **** ups may have made one too many false assumption..
I really liked Josh's unprovably wet water. Herve mentioned earlier that measurements can be made on the position of particles that wouldn't have been there to measure if you hadn't tried to measure them. If you regard measuring the position of an object as like asking the question "where is the particle" then by asking the question you are creating an answer. If you find out what questions to ask perhaps you can make more palatable answers. That would be real power, changing the future by predicting what your speculations about it can do.
If only it was that easy.. by asking "dumn or what" I triggered a whole bunch of people to contribute a heap of irrelevant (but worthwhile), weird, entertaining and interesting ****, cheers!
.. but don't take my word for it.. I've been dumn before!

If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?

Science only changes when we prove ourselves wrong. Thats fine, think about how long science has actually been a real big practice in human society, not long compared to religion or anything. When you think about when people started actually studying things, its not surprising they got so much wrong.
But science is not about a bunch of theories, its a way of explaining the nature of the universe we live in, just like philosophy.
Think what it would be like if science never changed anyway, we would think the world is flat, that the sun is the center of the universe, still be totally oblivious to the fact that gravity exists, but still not noticing how we dont fly off the planet. Things have to change, thats how they get better. Im sure things like philosophy and religion and mysticism have changed over the years.

Well, you've only been a member of this for the last few months; you can assume that it has been mentioned before.

Actually, I've discussed it within the last few monthes.

I know, I mean, its all we talk about in our family discussions. About reality, the nature of things, everything like that.

Our family discussions suck. We usually talk about the lawn, the cleanliness of the house, and pro-cons of why we should blow everyone up except Americans.
# 14
Thats an awfully silly thing to talk about. Other topics of our discussions include money, my sister's horseback riding, music, things that happened to us this week that suck.

We always talk about my dad gets screwed by his customer, and how his employees are crack heads. Also, we talk about my future and how I WILL go to college and be successfull happy apple pie eater.

My Dad talks about the idiotes who run the company he works at and how they're idiots and they dont know how to run a company.
They hope I do whatever pleases my after highschool, trouble is, I dont know what that is. University isn't my bag and my true love is music. Im thinking along the lines of session musician. My grades in math and science arent high enough to go into any of the sciences or anything anyway.

I'm in grade 11 too, and I've gotten pretty used to school now. It's just part of everyday life.
Rock and roll ain't noise pollution, but it can get pretty crappy these days.
