Hello All. I,m slowly working my way through Fundamentals 1 and really enjoying it. Chord changes are going quite well and I,ve mastered most of them. My problem occurs when I come to play along with a song. Even after printing them out I just get lost as to where I,m meant to be and then it all goes to pot. I just can,t seem to follow the tab and listen without losing where I,m meant to be. It,s like the rubbing your stomach and tapping your head at the same time ! When I just practise the songs without the music, most of the time it,s fine.Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.Eric

Have you clicked on the images tab? I find it helpful, because it has the words to the song and where the chord change takes places in relation to the lyrics.

Learn in sections. Learn the chord changes of one song section and just get that down. Once you've it down good, learn the next section and get that down. Then start stringing them together.

For fun, I figuring out sections of Van Halen's 'Runnin' with the Devil'. Though I've been playing for a good long time and can learn reasonably quickly, I still use the method above. Learn a section at a time and build from it. For the Van Halen song, the main riff isn't all that hard but the second set of chords in the open riff took a few passes before it felt comfortable. So, I just pounded at that until I was good.

Thank you for your reply. It is very helpful advice. I,ve now reached the beginning strumming section and find following the music much easier, so what it has taught me is that maybe I was not as fluent and coordinated in the bass strum technique as I thought I was so will go back and re visit and get that a bit more comfortable. Thanks again. Eric
