What's guitar war? Is that some type of shred contest? Sorry I'm just not familiar with the term.

It's a website that guitarists go to to test their skills against one another.

Guitar war sounds pretty childish if you ask me. Hell, i guess it's all in good fun though.

It's not so childish , atomic...
i mean it always fun to do competition with the guitar, and to show your skills...
it's not more childish then mtv top 20, it's the same thing, but without the money stuff... it's only for fun there...

Do you? care to clarify that a bit more or expand on that statement a bit please.

I think what Luke meant by that statement was that most rock/blues riffs are based around a 3 chord progression. The one most commonly used being the 1, 4, 5 progression.

yeah I know that, but you don't have to stay within that chord progression unless your playing classic type blues - its a bit like saying you should be playing a beat up les paul or telecaster to play blues properly

does anyone here use the other turn arounds alot. I love that jazzy sound that you can get from a 2 5 1 progression but anyway thats my two cents on the topic.

I'm glad you know that. I just think that arguments about music on this board are getting beaten to death, ya know what I mean?

Usually I like discussions like these but in this case I agree with BadHorsie, it's getting kind of old. So long as we all keep in mind the following things, the world will be a better musical place.
1. Everyone is entitled to a different idea of what a "good" guitarist is.
2. Everyone is entitled to a different idea of what a "good" (replace "good" with any other loaded word of your choosing, ie., interesting, complicated, fun, enjoyable) style is.
3. "Music" has a different meaning for different people. It's not arranged just tones and rhythems.

Yeah, jazzing up the blues is always fun. I like using altered dominant chords instead of normal 7th chords, using tritone substitutions, sticking in the iv ii V I turnaround at the end, and all that stuff to make it more insteresting.
