Hi All

I have been using Guitar Tricks for a while (started, stopped, now started again) and still working through the fundamentals lessons. Was curious how long it takes folks to get through those lessons. It seems to me that i may be looking for perfection in each lesson before I move on (not that I have achieved that mind you!). I'd like any opinions from the community on how you know when to move on to the next lesson? Thanks for your time.

Enjoying Guitar Tricks and Lisa is an excellent instructor.

I'm definately not getting anywhere near perfection before moving on - I find I get stuck too easily if I do that.

Working through Rock 1, this seems to be working for me:

1) take an initial pass through the whole course, trying my best to play along but not worrying when I mess it up

2) revisit all the "performance" sections in turn, spending a while on each - until I get to just about passable OR feel completely stuck

3) move on to something else

4) go back to the previous thing (2) and try again - often I'll find I play it much better at this point having has a couple of days break - this seems to work quite often even when I've been completely stuck

5) revist each periodically, casually playing along, gradually increasing time between revisiting

Hope that helps!

I am not getting perfection with every lesson, but pretty good. My successful actions have been:

1) Keeping the guitar in perfection tune because I can tell when a finger is in the wrong place, etc. increasingly more easy just by the sound.

2) I often "practice" for 2 or 3 hours a day while watching a game or something on TV, etc. I work on all of the Essential chords and switching between them quicker and just making up melodies that sound cool, or printing the notations and looking them. When someone else is around I strum with my thumb instead of the pick it won't be too loud.

+1

Also trying this, mainly with scales and licks that I don’t need to think about too much. Hoping doing this whilst brain is engaged elsewhere helps train muscle memory.
