Hey guys

Strumming patterns, for me anyway, has been one of the most difficult thngs. I can play the drums decently, so i know it's not a beat issue, cause believe, i got beat. so, is there any sort of trick to learning strumming patterns? Let's say for The Gambler for example? Any thoughts?

With me, its just swinging my hand in the normal strumming pattern, and only hiting the strings when Im supposed to.

Maybe your using you wrist too much in you strumming... the motion of strumming should start from the elbow.

And you should watch yourself in the mirror. You forearm has to go at the same speed at any time. If you move your forearm up and down as the strummming requires you to, it's not good. It's up down... and you hit the strings when you have to.

I think what i meant was, a song can sound completely different or even like en entirely different song, simply by changing the strumming pattern. So how do you learn the strumming pattern for a particular song? Is this a really stupid question? It could be. I haven't decided yet. I chose the gambler by kenny rogers because i thought it would be an easy song to learn since the chords are G, C, and D i believe. Plus it's a good camp fire song cause usually everybody knows the words, haha.

I don't know the words, but I'm special. One way of learning strumming patterns is chucking along with the record just up and down up and down lalalalalla... and eventually you'll pick up the strumming pattern. Or you don't have to chuck you can just use the chords. IT's hard to explain. But I am not telling YOU anything.

If you dont tell anyone anything why do you bother even posting a reply to a question?
