I have been struggling with combining sliding and power chords and am looking for either some overall technique tips or maybe some other things to practice.

Most of this struggle occurs when trying to play a 5th string root note and go from like an strum E5 and slide to G5, strum G5 and slide back to E5. The two items I see occurring are my ring finger and pinky kind of bending and they end up creating a jerky motion and it leads to bad sliding sound that involves buzzing. Also, trying to keep my index finger in place and maintain the muting on the low E string seems to be a challenge.

In general the most efficient way to overcome a physical technique problem is to focus on the motion that gives you trouble & drill only that motion.

So, pick two chords (like in your example) & just play those chords back & forth. Don't add a strumming pattern, don't waste time, effort or motion doing anything else.

Form E5, play once.

Move to form G5, play once.

Repeat ad infinitum! :)

That way you can train your mind & fingers to do those motions & focus on refining micro placement of fingers for fretting & muting as you are working it.

You might also benefit from my tutorial on building pinky strength & dexterity.

And here is my tutorial on barre chords that addresses some of these issues from a beginner technique perspective. They might be below your skill level, but it never hurts to review the fundamentals![br][br]https://www.guitartricks.com/tutorial.php?input=464

Hope this helps!
