Hi Mike,

I joined GT this year, as a beginner, and really enjoy Lisa's fundamentals, and your gift of teaching and playing, especially some of my favorite Stones songs. I looked through the threads and didnt see this question, so I hope it's not a waste of time.

I am trying to get comfortable with the Stones Style Techniques you taught in the lesson on a Squier/Fender Strat. The sus chords really make the sound more authentic. As for the Chuck Berry power chord techniques you teach, I am finding that my fingers are not long enough to put my index finger on the 3rd fret, and my pinky finger on the 7th fret. Actually, when I play power chords, it's been most comfortable for me to use my index and pinky fingers, but I am trying to get better at the way Lisa teaches it in Guitar Fund 2 with three fingers.

So my question is, is there another technique to would be a Stones Style/Chuck Berry power chord to use? Or am I not playing your technique correctly. Thanks for all you do!

Steve

Mike,

I think I answered my own question! It's thumb placement! I moved my thumb down toward the bottom of the neck, and I can reach it! But, I would gladly appeciate any other tips to these power chords.

Also, my hand is a litte sore now!

Hi Steve! Great job, you did exactly what I would suggest -- experiment with thumb placement, position of wrist and forearm, etc in order to facilitate these tough moves!

What you will find is that the more you practice and play the power chords, the easier the moves will become - eventually it will feel more natural to finger the higher note of the chord with your ring finger, making the Chuck Berry rhythm even easier.
