I'm new to guitar tricks and just got a rockmaster electric guitar and a amplifier but it is older. I see overdrive, base, treble and clean level knobs and the guitar has volume and tone on the body. What do I set it to for a decent rock sound

Hi thundercloud80,

The Overdrive knob is going to be the distorted, rock sound you're probably looking for. Play with that knob to get the crunch!

All the other knobs you can play with, but the bass knob is the lower tones, the treble are the higher tones, and clean is just clean, without any type of distortion.

Hey & welcome to GT!

That depends on what song you are playing! Different songs require different tones.

If you're playing Beatles or Stones, then you don't need much overdrive, if any at all. If you're playing AC/DC or Skynyrd, then you might need a little overdrive. If you are playing Van Halen or Metallica, then you need to crank up the overdrive!

In general, the best thing to do is set everything at 5: the overdrive & the EQ knobs (bass, mid, treble). Then set the master volume on the amp at 1 or 2. Then turn the knobs on you guitar all the way up.

Now you have a good starting point or baseline. As you need more overall volume you can turn up the master. If you need more or less gain, bass, treble, etc. you can make slight adjustments.

Almost every GT song tutorial has a lesson on how to set your gear to get the right tone for the song. And we have a lot of great tutorials on gear.

Anders goes into a lot of detail about rock tone & gear if you start here.

Hope this helps! Ask more if necessary & have fun!
