Hi kishore.ashok13,

Getting your first guitar is a tough question. My very first guitar was a $150 Squier Stratocaster. I learned mostly everything on that guitar before I eventually got a really really cheap acoustic guitar, a Jasmine by Takamine. I got both of these guitars because of the way they felt in my hands. My best advice for anyone getting a new guitar is to try and go to a local music store where they have guitars and play with them until you find one that feels good to you.

Hope that helps.

- Billy

Totally agree. I'm learning on a fairly decent Ibanez, but also a $59 acoustic from Monoprice. Honestly, the $59 acoustic functions just as well for my learning as the more expensive guitar. If I could do it over again, I would have picked up that Squier Bullet for $99 on sale at Guitar Center, then my $59 acoustic and called it done. I like having the acoustic because it takes a bit more force to push down the strings, then when I go back to the electric it feels easier, if that makes sense. Kind of like swinging 3 bats before you walk up to the plate - the single bat all of a sudden feels super light.

Those Squire Bullets are such a bang for the buck. Parden the pun I guess.

If you're begginer you can buy cheap guitar or used guitar, for example. You can look for it on Pawnbat to see what they have and what prices they have. Hope it's useful for you.

I have two very cheap guitars but having said that, they are cheap but also good quality. I have the Keith Urban Night Star solid body electric that I purchased for 200 and it came with a great low action which is perfect for a beginner. I also own a Yamaha FGX 800c which was about 250 and is an acoustic electric. Both are great guitars and I see playing them for at least the next couple years until I upgrade to an expensive guitar.

The first thing to decide is electric or acoustic. You can start out on either...personally I think it's more of a question of which type of guitar would inspire to to play more...which one is "cooler" to you?

If you go cheap, make sure the guitar is playable, setup well, and intonated properly If you can, have somebody that plays help you choose a guitar. As a beginner, you don't want to fight the guitar.

The nice thing about an acoustic is things are simple and you can focus on playing...no amp to fiddle with and an acoustic is portable.

I got my kids a 3/4 size Mitchell acoustic that is VERY playable. Mitchell is a Guitar Center house brand. It is an acoustic that plays like an electric...very easy on the fingers which is important when starting out. Nice low action too. It sounds a bit twangy due to its size, but that's OK. Once you know what you are doing, you can move to something better. A 3/4 size acoustic makes a great travel guitar.
