Hi, I'm Brian, 37, from Nottingham England. Very interested in learning to play the guitar, I guess a life long ambition that i've never got round to fulfiling. I don't even own a guitar yet!

I have 2 major concerns that are stopping me throwing myself in head first.

The first is time. I have a young family and business work schedule. I'm expecting progress to be slow anyway but if I can only spare 2-3 hours a week is that going to be enough to make this worthwhile.

The second is learning online. I wouldn't be able to afford 1 to 1 tuition so I just wondered how people found learning online compared to actual lessons.

Any thoughts, comments would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to GuitarTricks Brian!

We all know it can be difficult to stick to a practice routine especially when you have some many other important things happening in your life. Like learning any new skill it is crucial to get in as much practice as you can to progress quickly. But the thing with our online course is you get to go at your own pace and really learn in detail.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact us.

Hi Brian

I'm also from England and have a similar situation(but do have a guitar). I would really recommend getting some some structure into what yow want to do. I try and balance learinng songs(the fun bit) with improving technique and theory. I do this by mapping out what I want from the Guitar Tricks site (which they pretty much do for you if you check it out). I find the GT site is really good on all counts and I can't recommend this site highly enough. I also have tuition once a month with a registered guitar instructor to keep me on track and to identify and clarify issues I have.

Hope it helps and have fun

T

Thanks Ted, appreciate the advice. Have you started out with acoustic or electric?

Well I have both, It depends on what style I want to play. I have to say I prefer to use the electric on the basis I find it easier to play and suits the music I enjoy most.
