What do you think of the "rumour" that nu-metal is dying, if not dead, which is what Im readin almost everywhere.

Here in Ireland and UK, young 10yr old rockers strut the streets with sum41, blink 182 and limp bizkit t shirts. Its like a craze. Everyone is mad into these bands playing songs who everyone and their granny could probably manage. (ok, im exagerating a bit there.)
Im 14, and most ppl in my class are loving nu-metal. But, and im probably wrong here, but i get the impression that they arent as talented as the rock bands of the 80's. I didnt go with the crowd, I'm a massive fan of acdc, guns n roses, led zeppelin, warrant, la guns, ratt, motley crue, etc. Im starting to notice that nu metal songs are very short, mostly around 2:50, when most classic rock songs were 5:30 or more.
I may be very wrong here, but does anyone really give a **** what happens?
Also, in reply to previous posts on this topic -
-Although guitars solos are a signature of classic rock, just because they're in a song doesnt necessarily make the song. Look at U2, hardly any solos, but a legendary rock band.

I think nu metal is dying.
It happens to all styles of music that are "over-copyed". It happened to just about every style of music scince the 80's. It happened to the Hair Bands, Grunge, and now Nu Metal. Even if a style of music doen't dye off, it is usually changed and evolves into a completely different style than it was when it started off, like punk and country.
I dont however think its dying off because of the lack of guitar solos or the length of the song, its just a fad. Like you said, U2 are a legendary band and they hardly have any solos, but they're original and have never been copyed. I think the genre of nu metal is just getting old fast.
And one other thing, I hardly think of Sum 41 or Blink 182 as nu metal. They're more like a rock/punk combination. Limp Bizkit, sure, but dont forget, they dont have a guitar player at the moment.
I get the feeling that if more people played guitar they would appreciate the more complex music rather than bands like Limp Bizkit and those other rap rockers. I know I do.(Still like Sum 41 though. Canadian, just like me!)
And God said, 'Let there be rock!'

Yeh, I see your point. Its not that I hate nu metal bands, its just trying to get people to see why I like the kind of music I do so much. I see what you mean by sum41 not entirely being a nu metal band, but the fact is that if you walk into any major music store, they are classified as nu metal. But it doesnt really matter anyway.
Do you think that classic rock may be coming round again in a different sort of style, like the music of creed and nickleback? or would they be classed as nu metal maybe?
Also, do you think they'res any bands around now who may be able to make it in the long run because of their unique style, such as U2?

I think there are some bands that have a sound of there own. Creed and Nickleback being a few of them, I guess there are bands that have been around for a while, although not as long as U2, because of there unique sound, like The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Bands like this arent really nu metal, they're like hard rock. I think of bands like Project Wyze(from my hometown of Sudbury, unfortunatly) as nu metal bands.
I think there are some promising newcommers to. I like Incubus because of there fusion of all kinds of different styles of music, like Jazz and Hard Rock. I think that kind of music will be even bigger in the near future.

i really could care less if its dying or if its pulling strong, if you like classic rock, and you want to play classic rock style music, you wont get anywhere in the mainstream, look in the jam band scene...

Good point, and I happen to like classic rock, and so does the band I'm with. Were just a bunch of friends that play together for fun once and a while. I wouldn't be cought dead playing nu metal. Thats just my taste in music.

I think "nu" metal is the same thing as regular metal. I don't really see a difference. If your talking about mainstream metal, yea I think its dieing out, but metal will never die. Most mainstream metal sucks anyways.

I think nu metal is a lot different than metal. Listen to Metallica, and then listen to Korn, theres a BIG difference.

Yea, I know but Korn isn't nu-metal. They might have influenced it, but they aren't it. Plus Metallica's new stuff fits right in with it.

Korn is NOT nu-Metal.

Nu-Metal is stuff like Linkin Park, Papa Roach, and Limp Bizkit. Basically some rap with heavy drop-tuned guitar.

Well, he can't rap, therefore he doesn't. Therefore, Korn isn't nu-Metal. :D

Most people I know call them "hard core" . . . whatever that means.

Though I don't really care about putting a lable on things, Korn is definately not hardcore. If you really had to put them somewhere, it'd be the NU-metal department.
I never knew rapping was a requirement to be considered NU-metal though. I thought it was more about the sound in general.

Yea I know. Snot is hardcore, not KoRn. I always considered nu-metal to mean that the band uses down-tuned guitars and basses. Although some do have influence of rap, that is not what makes nu-metal.

Well, it doesn't really matter what label anyone puts on them. They definitely have a distinct style . . . they don't sound anything like the defunct nu-Metal bands (Limp, Linkin, Papa, etc).

I think that Korn is somewhere between Hard Rock and Alternative Metal.

I would go with the alternative metal on that one. They are two heavy for hard rock, and they started this whole tune down outragiously, really heavy metal. But I dont listen to them, so dont mind me.
