I would think some competition would be good. We can all learn from one another and gain some new knowledge from anyone whether and advanced player or novice. We really should setup a jam session. I'm suggesting maybe on Yahoo messanger if you guys have it and go into one of the guitar rooms and play it out. I used to go in there all the time and play. It's cool cause you jam with alot of good players and some are just unbelieveable. My login for Yahoo messanger is Evh5150ca in case you've been in there and might have heard me play. It's all in fun though but hey if it comes down to cutting heads then so be it. I'm Ralph Macchio and your Steve Vai....lol Take care everyone and reply back.

I dunno if this commercial aired outside of Toronto, Canada, but a high-speed internet service provider (Sympatico - Bell Canada) had a commercial that showed people all over the world logging on to a website and they started jamming; a drummer, a guitarist, trumpeteer, singer, etc. I just automatically assumed that this was made up by Bell, but from the first post, it seems as if it is possible. I just thought it wasn't possible because of the delay from the internet as well as the fact that you would need some really loud speakers hooked up to your sound card to rival your guitar amp's volume.

So is this really possible? If so, that's pretty cool.

I wasn't too sure about guitarwar.com until I heard it from my own ears.

Really good stuff is played there. Really worth it.

Hey ^chacron^ don't fear, there are guitarist from all level. You need to be able to solo and produce descent tracks, that's all. There's also a lot of styles which is really cool. Always remember that there's a better guitarist than you but you can still have fun with the competition. That way, you'll never get too cocky. I was outplayed often in my life but never beaten. As long as I play my style, i'll never be beaten. It's just like in real life.(Wow, what a touching moment, almost want to cry).

But seriously, the community is also great back there, althought I spend much more time here.

I will probably enter the competition soon myself. I need the challenge, jamming by yourself can get boring with time.

If you take yourself seriously (meaning that everything people might tell you can either bring GREAT JOY or commit suicide) don't sign up. If you wanna hear what other guitarists want to say about your thing, then sign up...

I'm a freakin pro, and I only have a 42% of wins!! Sometimes, it was totally justified, sometimes, people just didn't hook up with my stuff. But who cares right? I have fun...

Well I'm kinda both.....I'm touchy, although I can take lotsa crit.....that doesn't quite make sense but it would to anyone who knows me personally.......Suicide is a little extreme though.....lol

At the moment I'm crap at recording......the levels are always wrong, I cant write drum tracks beyond the very basic and the whole concept of 'midi' is almost alien to me.....but it's a learning experience, and at least I can play guitar even if I'm not a recording master.

One thing though, at guitar war do the tracks have to be exclusively played on guitars? One thing I'm growing out of is tracks that are just guitar guitar guitar, I play other instruments and like to record them too.

I do not know guitar war. Guitarbattle has a miscellaneous category with drummers and pianists.

How soon after signing up would I be expected to produce some material?

this sounds pretty cool, I was curious though, I'm listening to the Eagles right now, and I think many people would agree that much of their lead guitar work is of very high quality, even tho it doesnt have a zillion notes per second, just wondering whether the people at these places go for pure speed or whether it's songwriting ability? feeling etc?

I'm sad to say that from what I've seen, speed is still what win the titles.

I can play fast but don't like it. I think you loose part of the feeling when shredding too much. I work by the less is more approach. I might never win because of that, but I won't change my style only to win some melees.

Stick to what you beleive in, recongnition will come eventually. Anyway that's what I think.

I've won a Battle by playing some country licks. The guys were in awe, and they voted for me... In some cases, speed doesn't win.

Were you in an open battle all techniques and styles accepted? If so, the licks were probably very good. And the listeners were probably experienced guitarists who could see the skills it took to play it.

The the untrained ears some speed licks seems really hard when they are in fact easy to do.

That's why I prefer to play by feeling. I had my Malmsteen years. I thought he was a god until I heard a blues man play the most beautiful solo I had ever heard. In every note you could feel his pain. After that I started to see the guitar differently as I used to.

I could never play a solo before. I was concentrating too much on hitting that 64 notes licks. I wasn't able to jam with poeple either. Then I started to slow down, feel the rhythm and magic happened. I played my first solo. To this day I still get goosebumps thinking about it.

Now I really love to play. Now I'm ready to be heard, that's why I tried to be a host and that's probably why I got the "job". I'm not the fastest player around, nor the best soloist, but I sure love to teach what I've learned.

You should check out http://www.guitarbattle.com It's way less developped than guitarwar. But there's less rules.
