My name is Edward Jauch and even though my nickname is "Fingers" it has nothing to do with playing the guitar. I'm 52 years old and very determined to learn how to play. The fingers just don't want to move correctly yet, but it'll happen. Hand me some sunglasses because the future looks bright.
Brace yourselves! I DON'T KNOW JACK
haha! That's the spirit. Here's a finger warm-up lesson that should helphttps://www.guitartricks.com/tutorial.php?input=1450.
Edward, I can help you if you want to try what I do for a fingering exercise, and I just do it to get my fingers warmed up for the lesson or song to come. Using all four fingers, I set the metronome to 160 for me. You might start at 120, and play all strings up the neck to the 12th fret. Then I use three fingers and do the same thing. Then I do two fingers the index and third, and then also the second and pinky. If you get really daring you can also set the metronome to give you speed drills. Hope this helps.
Hey Edward, just thought I'd reply because I am in exactly the same boat. 52 years young and determined to learn to play. I have a small amount of previous learning, but want to advance my abilities somewhat.
Good luck with your pursuit of musical happiness!!
Alf
Edward welcome!
Hey Alf, your situation describes me perfectly. I played acoustic for a few years about fifteen years ago and got bored.
While waiting for a medical appt, I walked into a pawn shop in the mall to kill some time. The owner was playing some riffs on an electric guitar. We started chatting and I walked out with a used Squier Strat and a pretty decent (didn't know it at the time) Roland 15GX amp.
I've played it every single day since. Liked it so much I went out and bought a genuine Fender Stratocaster HSS in a nice cherry red. I'd play the thing all day if I could.
Can't wait until the day when muscle memory takes over and I can start feeling like it's more a natural thing. Like Edward, I've got my sunglasses on.
