I have completed Fundamentals 1 and 2, however, due to some medical situations, I am 65, I had to lay off playing for about three months and just got back into playing again. I have a question for the staff or anyone else. I went through fundamentals and was mainly bored because I already know most open chords as well as barre chords. I am going back into Fundamentals 2 and slowing down to get everything I can out of it, but my goal is simply to be able to play some good country and old school rock around the campfire or for my friends. I am practicing approximately 2 hours per day. To avoid boredom, is it better to work in Fundamentals for an hour, and then practice a song I want to master for an hour? I want to have at least 25 songs under my belt completely mastered and memorized by the beginning of March. Is that reasonable? For others, how long did it take you to finish Fundamentals 2. Thanks

The time it takes to complete a course varies for each person so there is no actual completed time on record as we want everyone to learn at their own pace. I think splitting your time between fundamentals and learning a song is a great idea as long as your getting the most out of it. Sounds like you're on the right track here.

Great question. I too am in my 60's. Sometime us experienced, (in life, not guitar), guys want to get to the meat of music which is playing songs. I went through Fundamentals one and two. Then went on to Blues one and two. While in Blues I ventured out to learn songs at GT, Youtube and other sites. As I learned the lessons from GT I found that the songs got easier and more fun. Both play on each other. If you are bored you need to reach out and find something to spice it up while still being committed to the lessons. If not, you will learn to just memorize cover songs without any knowledge behind what you are doing. That would be boring. Enjoy!
