I'm new to GT and have been working through Fundamentals 1 following a long break from guitar. I have worked half way through the course and am having a great time. Looking forward, when I complete Fundamentals 2, if I am interested in focusing on general acoustic style guitar, which recommended next step would you recommend: Rock, Blues, or Country?

Thanks so much for any feedback.

The country style course has more acoustic guitar material. But it also depends on what style you want to play.

Both Lisa & Caren have a wide & wonderful variety of acoustic guitar tutorials that will keep you busy for a long time after GF 1 & 2.

And finally, the end goal of learning to play guitar is to play songs! So, I encourage you to start digging through out massive song catalog looking for songs you enjoy.

Please ask more if necessary & best of success with your guitar!

Thanks Christopher. Let me extend this question a bit. Are the Blues, Rock and Country lessons listed below the Fundamentals 1 and 2 courses on the website considered part of the sequence of learning? Or, once a learner completes Fundamentals 1 and 2, they go to their selected style for additional learning. I hope that make sense.

Thanks

Yes, they are all integrated. They are designed to help GT learners build on the knowledge & skills acquired from completion of GF2. Everyone has different goals, tastes & levels of accomplishment. So we picked the 3 most widely used genres & built a curriculum that dovetails as much as possible from the end of GF2 to those style courses.

But, no, you don't have to do all three! You can if you want! You'll find a great deal of overlap in some areas. But it's not necessary to do each style course level 1 after GF2. So you might do:

GF1 > GF2 > Country 1 > Country 2

The material in GF 1 & 2 is basic, beginner material that all guitar learners need to know. That knowledge & skill set is applicable to all genres. Then as you learn more certain ideas & techniques are more specialized or dealt with in a more advanced manner particular to each style.

I encourage GT learners to finish GF 1&2. Then pick a style; say Country 1. And at the same time, start learning simple country songs. Then work through Country 2 & learn more songs. Then look through the main GT catalog for more intermediate & advanced tutorials while learning even more songs!

Make sense?
