another qeustion
hey ppl yes it is another question my idle is kirk hammett from metallica and i luv his solos but one problem his solos start to get slower ova the years and more into the wah-wah pedal which still sounds mint but i do hope he does get bac into speed like the kill em all album...well dats not exactly the qeustion i was afta i want to know how do u get solos eg. kirk hammetts solos to sound so good i can make solo but they usually have no style i can only make da good intros up not solos and im supposed to b the lead guitarist of my band :> i still like to experience wif my solos though mine do sound betta gradually when i make up new ones but theyre practically speed wat i do want is speed and mellowness so if any one out there can give me a hand even kirk hammett the man if he does check out dis site plzzz give me a hand im only 14 playing 4 1 1/3 years and ive already caught up 2 ppl dat hav been playing 4 4 or more years and i learnt that all it needs is PRACTISE,PRACTISE,PRACTISE mayb dats wat i shuld do wif my solos:>

yeah i'm 13 and i went through the same thing it sounds like your biggest problem is you just play scales, by calling yourself a lead guitarist i presume you know scales, and you solos are probably boring because you just play scales positions up and down the neck, so you have to be creative do bends harmonics tapping whatever, and if you don't know them yet learn the modes,i think that they made my soloing a lot better, but you must know theory behind the chords and scales so you know what to use where.
alright since you like kirk hammet i'll use this A minor pentatonic exaple
A minor pentatonic scales 1st position pattern descending
e-20-17------------------------------
b--------20-17------------------------
g--------------19-17------------------
d--------------------19-17------------
a--------------------------19-17------
e--------------------------------20-17
know while this isn't the most exotic thing done in pentatonic it sounds a lot better than the above (taken from call of the ktulu (SP?)
e-20-17---------------------------------------------
b--------20-17------17-20-17---------------------------
g--------------19------------19-17------17-19-17---------
d----------------------------------19------------19-17---
a------------------------------------------------------17
e-
and so on another thing you could do to pentatonics is add the 'blue' not which is a -5 from the root note, if your playing normal pentatonics and then you play a root flatted 5 intervel it will sound really bad but you could do something like this from anthrax's finale
d-------------------------------------------------
a-2-2--2-2---5-7-5----5-6-7--2-2--2-2-----0-2-0--0-1-2
e-0-0--0-0----------7--------0-0--0-0-----------2-----
something like that i haven't played the song in a while

If practice makes perfect, and no one is perfect. Then why practice?

Because you like to :D. That's the reason why people are in music :D. Be one with the guitar, and practice everyday.

yeah, well while your other there becoming one with your guitar, I'll be over here stealing your stuff. muhahaha. Actually thats just one of my favorite quotes, and everybody was talking about "practicing". It has a point though.

Because right now, I'm a fascist and I believe I should rule the world. I think that would be very kool. I would also make sure that america was known as a rock culture society instead of a pop culture society. Sorry britney, you can still be a cage dancer for my band. But yeah, on a serious note does anybody know where someone could find a good deal on tubes for a bass amp??
P.s. The fascist aspect wasn't right, but the rest was. =)

Yeah I'm still trying to figure that out..damn

You may not get perfect, but you'll get as close as you let yourself. So practice.

point is, you should never do anything to be perfect at it.

Personally, I dont think anyone can do anything perfect. Even if they can, they cant do it perfect all the time.

I can't disagree with ya on that. But what is perfect? Nobody can really describe "perfect", cause everything is different to some extend. If it was perfect there would be no flaws, and everything would be the same.

Yeah. I guess wether someone is perfect or not is a weird question to answer.

yeah, I've kinda grown a dislike for that word. Even when I talked about perfect pitch lately, I've been calling it absolute pitch. "It's good to strive for perfection, but it's not good to a perfectionist". I would rather say it's good to be the best you can be. perfection doesn't exist to me, and a perfectionist will always be wrong.

I'm not even perfectly myself. I sometimes think other people would be better at it than me, I"m too inconsistent. Oh, and I just got new glasses, they are cool. I practice to become realy freakin' awesome so that I can stand and listen to myself rather than people on albums. Heh, maybe the best reason to practice is if you're poor. If you're really good you don't have to go to concerts or buy CDs...
Anyway, did I tell anyone that I had new glasses? DOes anybody care?
:D
