Well, not being there to actually see if you're doing anything wrong, all I can suggest is that you turn your volume up on your amp, and down on your guitar. When you get to the tapping part, turn the volume on your guitar up so that the tapping volume is just as loud as the rest of your playing. Another suggestion would be to tap harder. This may sound stupid, but seriously, I wasn't tapping loud enough at first, so I started tapping harder, and voilĆ , it was louder ;)

You can tap with a pick (if you arent doing that already,)
or you can get hotrail pickups.

You should practice tapping real hard, as if you wanted to go through the guitar neck, and when you release the string, as if you wanted to pull it downwards, that helps.

Yeah, Ive had no luck tapping on acoustics. The strings are just to heavy. As for your electric, two things. How long have you been trying to tap and how heavy are those strings? I use .09 to .42 and it sounds fine when I tap. Lighter strings make it easyer to tap.
I had the same problem it sounds like your having when I started to tap. It'll go away.

E-5p4p0-5p4p0--7p5p0-7p5p0--5p7p5p7p9----

E-9h10h12h10h9h7h9h10-----------------2times (-12-14-12)

re:tapping

I've found that humbuckers are FAR better pickups for tapping, and I agree with everyone else, tap really hard, often with the edge of the pick, as it's hard itself.
Other things I've found helpful are the level and kind of distortion you use, I would say boosting your pre gain levels while cutting the post gain levels can be helpful, I've just found that tapping 'stands out' better against more fuzz like distortion, if you're not sure what i mean, check out the guitar tones on black sabbath's paranoid, that's very fuzzy.
As well, the EQ can affect things too, I find it harder to make tapping sound clean on an EQ where the mids are boosted, instead, try using the 'smile' EQ, sweep the mids out completely and boost the bass and treble

hope this helps!

Since nobody's mentioned it yet, I did a 60 page tutorial a while back on tapping on my host page if anybody's interested.
Hopefully it'll be some help.
The main chapter is at

I might be a bit too late in posting this, but there is no tapping in the In Too Deep solo. Brownsound just does that in the video to look cooler I guess.
Anyway I got the tab in a guitar world magazine so I know I'm right and if anyone wants to know the right way to play it let me know at the_electric_microbe@hotmail.com
I'll send you the tab.

thanks evry1 4 the help, i can play the sum 41 in too deep solo now good as, but i needa do it faster, anyway the in too deep solo does have tapping in it cos he does it in the video and it sounds perfrect the way i play it, i got this off http://www.mxtabs.net in the top rated list this got hundreds of five star ratings so im pretty sure its right anyways this is how the solo goes

e---t5p4p0-t5p4p0-t7p5p0-t7p5p0---2-/-4-\-2-/-4-/-5
b--------------------------------------------------4-/-5-\-4-/-5-/-7

e---------------------
b--9h10h12p10p9p7h9h10 x2 all that then

at the end of the second time do this

e-12b14r12

thats the way he plays it on the video, hope u can read my tabs a bit screwed but anyway, if you have any other ways of playin the solo thats better do a post it

Look, anyone can pick out a song by ear and put it on the internet. Doesn't meen its right. I've got the music from a book and I can read and I know Im right. The solo can be played with tapping, a lot of things can, but thats not the way Brownsound plays it and it would probalby be easyer for you to play it by using only left hand pull offs intead of sqeazing both your hands in between two frets.
Besides, watch the video again, you'll see that the part your tapping at isn't were he taps in the video, and you cant always go by what they do in videos anyway, half the time there guitar isnt even plugged in.(Who plugs in and goes to play in a pool anyway?)
Try playing it with no tapping, it'll be easyer for you, Im sure.

Well, whatevers easyest for you man, I was just saying thats the way the song was written. I can play it up to speed without tapping, I've never tried it with tappng. Maby I'll try and see which is the easyest.

I tried playing it with tapping last night. I thought it was awkward trying two scrunch both hands up between those two frets. It was hard to play it very cleanly. Are you sure your not having any problems with buzzing or muted strings or something?
