Hi,

I've come back to playing guitar after a huge break and to be honest I was always a classical player and now i'm learning the electric. Done all the basic fundementals 1 & 2 and nearly at the end of Rock 1 course. Which is all great, but i have a problem with the pick.

I either loose it entirely on long rhythm sections or it rotates in my fingers, then i loose it. Any ideas how to stop me loosing my picking and not become stiff and rigid in the process.

I hold the pick so that it follows the line of my forefinger, protruding slightly beyond my finger tip and resting on the edge of my finger and my thumb is at 90% to the pick and finger clamped over the widest part of the pick. (i hope that makes sense ) :-)

okay to the

I don't have the answer, but I can tell you the exact same thing used to happen to me. I can remember playing "Long Train Running" and the pick would start shifting in my grip and rotating and I would start praying I wouldn't lose it! There were times I was playing with the back of the pick before I reached a part in the song where I could shift it back.

I never did anything to resolve it...it just resolved itself. It didn't take long to resolve either as I recall.

I didn't change the pick I was using, though you can find picks that are more grippy. I've read where players would score the sides of the pick with the knife to create grooves to make it more grippy.

You are right though that you don't want to become too stiff or rigid by tightening your grip.

Perhaps not the answer you were looking for...but all it may take is to continue to practice and your fingers will figure out on their own what they need to do to keep the pick in hand.

I use Jim Dunlop picks that have grips on both sides that never come out of my fingers no matter how sweaty I get. I wouldn't use anything else. I might send you a packet of a million for Christmas if your good ;-) cheers bro. have fun plucking

I've actually seen a lot of people with this problem and I always recommend Sticky Picks by Guitar Moose.

I've played for 20+ years and I use them exclusively. It almost always solves the "picking dropping syndrome."

Hope this helps!

Yup, the problem just went away...sort of like sore fingers. For awhile, I was putting self-adhesive Velcro dots on the picks and that worked well.

These days the Velcro is gone and I use Dava Control Grip Tips picks.
