Hi There,
I have no clue why i am thinking of giving advise as i am complete novice myself but ihad same problem for a moment, Lisa does demonstrate a pinky G that some might find more suited to there individual type, but decided i wanted to learn by the book and master the proper G as i call it and soon realized that if i move my thumb position very very slightly it became a lot easier especially when needing to change to a C more quickly. try it it worked for me Hope Lisa does not come on and tell me off for my advice lol

Welcome to Guitar Tricks
I think this is Lisa's lesson you would want to look through

It looks like you are brand new here at Guitar Tricks.. If you go through the the Core lessons you will be taught everything you need to know.. It will take a bit of time to build your flexibility, strength and muscle memory.
Most of all, it's practice practice practice..

Play the G like this:
E|---x-----
B|---3-----
G|---0-----
D|---0-----
A|---x------
E|---3-----
You'll only need two fingers. Use your second and finger.
Let me know how this goes!

My advice:
Stop worrying how long it is taking you to learn how to play something. It simply takes as long as it takes and some things take a long time to learn and even longer to perfect. You are starting something that will take years not months to get good at.
So build good habits from the start and make chords correctly. Cheating builds bad habits that can take a long time to unlearn. Often longer than it would have taken to learn correctly from the get go.
Be ready for the F chord it will slow you down for weeks. Then one day it will just work and you will wonder why you could not do it yesterday. You had not done it for a long as it took yet yesterday. Its funny how many things work like that learning guitar.
Remember to take pride in the little steps along the way. It probably was not that long ago that making the c chord seems hard. Everything takes time.
