pick ups or throw outs
Been wrestling with a dean markley pick up for my classical. It is a tranducer type that fits under the bridge, and if I knew how much hassle that little ####er was going to be I would have gone with a sound hole mic. The package didn't come with any decant instructions. Now I am a certified electronics technician with experiance of all kinds in electronic assembly, but what a little ######d this thing is. I am pretty sure its "bunk", what a shame because when it does work the sound is excellant.

It is intermitant, meaning it works and then out of the blue it doesn't. I have re-installed it a few times and made sure the bridge is flat and square, the problem seems to be a short at the end of the transducer strip where it connects to the lead to the end pin jack, if I wiggle that it crackles like h.e. double hockey stick. Durring installation I took extra care with the unit(not bending it too much), and being a tradesman electronics tech. the soldering I performed is above industry standards....

I live in a remote location, I've managed to get it to work for now,..I record alot so I'd rather just use it for the time being. Besides transducers are odd little creatures their personality is intermitant anyhow, so its hard to tell if the pickup is really shorting or not seated properly.

How's the bottom of your bridge saddle slot look? You're right about transducers being finicky, they do need to sit flat and make good contact with the bottom of that slot, they seem to be a major pain when it comes to retro-fitting. good luck with it........
