Hello all,

New to Guitar Tricks and am looking forward to all the insight than can be offered here.

The title is a misleading and here is why.. I have been playing "rhythm" guitar on and off now for about 20 years. I define rhythm as first position/capo'd chords. Recently I have been more off than on and want to put an effort towards playing again. In a vague statement, I just want to be able to play. Style doesn't matter. Today I feel like playing rock. Tomorrow I may feel like Jazz. The next day I may want to play fingerstyle/classical. I can read single note music in the treble clef.

Again, I know vague at best. But based on the above, would it be better to start with the Classical/Fingerstyle sections and then move to the other styles? Is there a "foundation" that should be learned first prior to moving into the styles?

Thank you in advance for any insight.

Thanks for the backstory! You will benefit most from working through our courses in the Core Learning System. A lot of the GF material will be too basic for you, but I encourage you to at least watch through it to see if there is anything you might have missed.

Absolutely! The Fundamentals courses. I'm guessing you could really benefit from starting in GF2.

After you start getting the hang of the GF2 beginner scale exercises & understanding how scales relate to chords, then the whole fretboard opens up for you!

Next choose Anders's rock or blues courses. He does a great job of showing how to start making licks, riffs & melodies with very basic easy to understand scale & chord patterns all across the guitar. And he uses those basic chords you already know as a launch pad!

So many of the ideas in all these courses is applicable to all other styles. But first you have to be comfortable & confident using the whole guitar.

Best of success! Ask more if necessary & have fun!

I've been seriously learning for about a year and recently decided to join gt. I decided to start at fundamentals 1 just to plug any gaps in technique and knowledge. And even though the lessons are easy (at the moment) I'm finding it really useful and each lesson progresses on a nice learning curve. So I'd say start at the begining and if the lessons are to easy you will wiz through them and it will remind you how far you have come plus you won't miss any thing for fundamentals 2 or one of the branches 😊
