Let's say I want to find all lessons covering music theory in any style.
What's the best way to do it?

I see some lessons have 'Focus: Theory' but I can't find a way to click through to the Theory category.
I found I can use Advanced Search, I select the checkbox Focus -> Theory, click search. It gives me 11 results and it looks like it's missing some Theory lessons. For example, if I do a normal search for 'intervals', one of the lessons is 'Diatonic Intervals', it says it's filed under 'Scales' on this page:
http://www.guitartricks.com/tutorial.php?input=728
If I click the 'Begin Tutorial' button it takes me to this page:
http://www.guitartricks.com/lesson.php?input=13045&s_id=728
where the Lesson Info says that the Focus is Theory.
It's confusing, is it under Scales or Theory?
If I do Advanced Search and search for ether Focus Theory or Scales neither returns the 'Diatonic Intervals' lesson. Is Advanced Search not working properly?

It looks like the 'Diatonic Intervals' lesson can be only discovered by a direct search if you use the right keywords. I haven't found it listed in any section.

I wonder how many other lessons are hidden that way. There should be a way to click through to any lesson via tags or category links.

Also it's strange that the Core System lessons are not listed under Styles. Say I want to learn Blues style, I go to Lessons ->Learn Guitar Styles -> Blues and it doesn't list Core System Blues 1 and 2. Why not? How many other sections do I need to click to find all blues lessons?
I find I have to poke around a lot to see what content is available.

Would be nice to have clickable tags and categories. Then one click on a Theory or Blues category would give me all lessons on the subject.

I like the lessons. Are there any plans to improve the content navigation?

Welcome to Guitar Tricks
For now, if you are by-passing the core lessons, I would suggest directing theory questions to Christopher Schlegel. He's THE MAN for Guitar Theory. He may have theory links ready that he can send you.
I see the point of using advance search. I tried using the "check box" for search, "keyword" for search, and both check box and keyword and found difference result for each
Would a table of content as one would find in a book work..?

Here is a starting place from Christopher lessons.

Hey, there! I understand your problem! GT grows, changes & updates so much that it gets tricky to integrate & navigate all the material in a single manner.

When the site was originally built the coding team had to pick a set of categories that a lesson could be associated with. And the more categories a lesson can be associated with, the trickier the organization & searching gets. I know from creating content that sometimes you have to pick one main category that a lesson belongs in, even if it also covers or touches on several others! :)

And some of that is just the nature of music & teaching. Everything is ultimately integrated.

Start by searching for theory. And then add or subtract any other term you can think of to help broaden or narrow your search: scale, diatonic, chord, harmony.

And beyond that, ask me! :)

Great idea! And yes there are plans to improve the navigation. I'm not a coder or on the coding team. But I can forward your concerns to them!

I like this idea, it might be a long list but it would be a good overview of all content available and easy to search by a keyword. I was even thinking compiling a list like that by myself.

Thanks for your answers. I'll just explore and see what's available. I guess I'm a bit spoiled by sites like Lynda.com, they have well organised content.

Hi todorenko,

Thanks for the feedback! I see your point.

We have a glossary of guitar topics and lessons that correspond to them here: https://www.guitartricks.com/guitarglossary.php

But I agree that there could be improvements to the way to find specific content on the site. There are a few projects relating to this the the developers are working on.
