Hey guys,

I just ordered my first pedal! It's the Boss DS-1. I know it'll be perfect for rock and many other kinds of music, but will it be enough for death metal? My amp has a gain setting. I'm thinking high gain plus this pedal might be enough? Or do I need something like the Boss Metal Core or even a compressor pedal with a noise suppressor?

I'm really new to all this stuff.

I think if you use a distortion pedal on top of a distorted tone on your amp you'll get a really muddy sound. Which is what you might want...

I see. Is an overdrive pedal meant to copy the sound of overdriving an old tube amp on its own? Like before there were gain knobs, how did they get that overdriven or distorted sound on a tube amp? Did they just turn the volume up really high?

FYI, Premier Guitar (which offers free digital subscriptions) has a pedal issue out now. It features a "Pedal Roundup" which, online, has video demos of the various pedals in the article. http://digital.premierguitar.com/premierguitar/201410_1#pg2

i own the Boss DS1 and you can get a lot of distortion from the pedal, you can use it for rock to death metal easily.

I dont like the tone of a distortion pedal on top of your distortion channel. Best way. To do it through your clean channels.
How ya doin.

Hey nice pedal u bought. Just for the hell off it , Google metal amp tweaker. Theres several types of amp tweakers available.
One suited for heavy metal. It has a built in noise gate. And you can and two pedals to it. You just have to see this, I think you would really like it! Amp tweaker .wWhen you stop playing the amp tweaker makes your amp silent. The amp tweaker is perfect for death metal , you need to check this out. You can see demos on youtube. I went to their site and it froze my computer for a while so I'm scared to go back. What is this tweaker exactly? ( a pedal? software?)
