I'm looking for a guitar that has wide frets like the Fender (I'm comparing the Gibson Les Paul to my Fender Strat and there's more space especially in the high note frets on the Fender), but has good pickups for metal. Do you know of any particular brands that have wide frets like that with chunky sounding pickups? It would also be nice if it had 24 frets.

The difference you are seeing is due to the scale length. Read up on it here:

Thanks! I learned a lot just from those two links. I've also realized that no matter how used to my Gibson LP I get, when I pick up my Fender Strat, it just feels better to me. I have big hands and long fingers, but it's not just that. The feel of the strings and frets just seem so much more fitting. I'm actually faster on my Strat as well.

So my ideal guitar would by something that has frets like my Stratocaster but has 24 frets instead of 21. I've been looking at Music Man's Majesty, but it's so expensive!

You are not alone and that's why this guitar exists:http://prsguitars.com/custom24/

Look for a used one here:

PRS Introduced the S2 series, which are of American made quality without the high prices American made PRS guitars usually go for. The S2 PRS line is like the Studio line for Gibson.

The only drawback of the PRS Custom 24 is that the frets get a little crowded toward the top of the neck to accomodate the addition frets. I also thought the neck was a little narrower at the nut.

They are great guitars, but ultimately the PRS S2 Custom 24 just wasn't for me. I find the Gibson Les Paul standard with a 60's slim taper neck more to my liking.

The feel of the PRS was similar, but not really like my strat. You should try one out in person.

I'll definitely keep that in mind when I go to look at guitars this weekend. Ultimately I'm going to go with what feels best, and hopefully something that has 24 frets, even if I have to end up switching out pickups to get the sound I want.
