fretting

Hi have learnt to fret a lot of barre chords but on the fifth string root chords cant seem to bend my 3rd finger up far enough to mute the first string can anybody help ?? ,thanks terrific site don,t really need to play just watch the lessons

Sounds like a finger independence issue. One quick exercise I've used is: put all four fingers on the G string (anywhere that's comfortable). And, one finger at a time, do hammer ons and pull offs on the D string. Good as a general warm up too.
