I find this site slow loading when changing pages or opening lessons. I don't find this on other sites I visit so it is not my computer.

Are you experiencing problems on the site

I've had huge problems for two weeks...very disruptive and demotivating during practice sessions and not too much fun when I want to surf the forum. The Help Desk was courteous and responsive but in the end said GT's server logs show nothing of concern, no one else had problems and, bottom line, 'it's not us...maybe it's a node in the internet backbone.'

I'd be joyous with slow loading. Sadly, I get a couple minutes of 'grinding' while waiting for GT to respond and then the dreadful "This page can't be displayed" page. Generally, I have to wait five to ten minutes before I can connect again. Happens with IE, Chrome and Safari browsers; on three different W7 computers and an Apple Touch.

:(

EDIT: And it happened again within a minute or two of posting the above. It happens with no other website.

I have the same issue but I know it isn't the GT sight. I downloaded a couple of updates (windows, McAfee, etc) and since then my GT stalls, isn't repsonsive or sometimes won't load.
The reason I know it isn't the GT site is because it works fine on my other 3 computers. Problem is that the bad one is my main unit, so I'm less than pleased.
Try loging on from someone elses computer and that will tell you.

I'm not a know-it-all by any means, but it probably is your computer. The items you can't load may be a lack of RAM or a bogged down computer which had issues with a couple years ago.
The easiest way to determine which side the problem is, is to take your login and password to another computer and open up GT and try it. If it loads and plays there you'll know.

Oh yeah, try one more thing on your machine first. If you're using Explorer as your search engine, download another such as google chrome. If the problem doesn't change then try someone else's computer.

I have tried three different computers and have the same problem. I guess what you are telling me is that it is just me having this problem. I had an account with GT for the last year and have not had this issue before.

Thanks for the advice, Jim, but it's a no go. As I posted above, the same problem happens on the three computers and Apple Touch I've tried; my desktop, my netbook, My Lady's laptop and my Touch. The three 'puters are W7 with IE 11. I've also tried Chrome on the desktop and netbook and I experience the same problem (the Touch uses the Safari browser).

After reading your comments but before I could post this reply I ran into the problem again. I was in the forum but when I clicked to go to this thread I could no longer connect. That is what happens throughout the day, every day. I couldn't connect with any of those W7 computers; all three, pretty much simultaneously, returned, "This page can't be displayed." More significantly, all three could bounce around to any other website, connect and have the other site's page load instantly at virtually the same time they couldn't connect with GT.

Again, the problem only happens with the GT site...it happens with every device I've tried and with three different browsers. While preparing for this reply/waiting to get back on GT I worked the three computers at the same time. The 'puters fail to connect/the server fails to respond at the same time and I regain connection at virtually the same time on the three.

Does any of this have to do with Microsoft no longer supporting windows 7.?
My old tower doesn't miss a lick running windows XP. It's my surfing tool, FB, and GT forums..!
My laptop running Windows 7 will run Guitar Tricks when I can get around "AD Choice and some Redirect program". It's my main access to GT for lesson and such.
Does anyone run Foxfire and having problems..?

MS continues to support W7 (at least until 2015) and issues various updates and security upgrades almost weekly. I haven't tried Firefox given the multiple other browser results I've had but I suppose I should get around to it...

But...I cannot find any logic looking for problem solutions in the operating system, the browsers, the computers themselves or the ISP or internet when only GT is affected. But I'll keep looking and keep listening to you guys for answers. This is a distressing problem and the impact will worsen as I (try to) move on to new lessons...

But not this weekend;

"Solar Update
Good morning. Below is an updated image of the visible solar disk on Sunday. Solar activity is currently at very low levels (X-Rays below C1.0). All visible regions, including newly numbered sunspots 2047, 2048 and 2049 remain stable for the time being. There is currently a chance for C-Class solar flares and a very small chance for an isolated M-Class event. No Earth directed coronal mass ejections were detected during the past 24 hours. Stay tuned to SolarHam.com for the latest space weather news and information."

Has the problem cleared up for anyone..
I now have the laptop working much better. Ran 10 or 12 lesson videos and all ran smooth.
I think the main reason I was having trouble on the LT is I had a old version of Jave that could possibly be a surety risk..
Lot of clearing out progs and about 10 updates. It may not work next time I log on, but at least I got this far.
The old tower is still trucking on too.
I hope other get thing straighten out.

Several users have emailed us with reports of connection problems.

Our server is currently running, accepting incoming connections, and responsive. The server status can be verified here: http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/guitartricks.com.html

It may be helpful to know that when you connect to Guitar Tricks there are several networks, switches, and hubs between your computer and our server. Your local network, your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) network, Tier 1 / Tier 2 / Tier 3 networks (which act as the "backbone" of the Internet), and our servers are all part of that system. A disruption in any one of those may cause your connection to Guitar Tricks to fail. Often, an unknown connection failure will resolve itself within a short period of time.

I have requested several of the affected users to run a traceroute test from their computers. This test shows how your connection is routed to the Guitar Tricks servers and provides information about all of the networks and equipment that the connection passes through along the way. I have noticed that the same Tier 1 provider appears to have intermittent connection time outs in most of these traceroute tests. This confirms that the connection failures are most likely due to a problem in between your computer and our servers and is out of our control.

As mentioned before, the connection problems will most likely disappear on their own within a short amount of time. However, if the problem is persistent, you may need to open a service ticket with your ISP.

If you have any further questions, please contact me by emailing admin@guitartricks.com.

Best regards,

James

My problem is greatly resolved. :D

Sunday afternoon I noticed a marked improvement, i.e., there were no time outs leading to "This page can't be displayed" when I clicked on various GT links (lessons and forum). I really put GT thru the wringer with more than a dozen 'clicks' within just a couple minutes and everything opened quickly. This happened with both IE and Foxfire which I had newly installed.

Monday morning was great. My early morning hours practice involving multiple GT lessons (blues and country) and songs had no interruptions. I was flying high.

Shortly thereafter I wrote James and told him the good news. As always, he was quick to respond and gave me further details about the net's potential for backbone problems. All was great. Then...

Within a half-hour or so of my email exchange with James the same 'ol time out problem was back. It lasted from about the 12-hour Mountain to the 2 p.m. hour when I left the computer. Back at the 7 p.m. hour, I went through 18 'click's' on the Forum within 10 minutes. All connected fast.

This morning I skipped practice. I was behind in a lot of 'stuff', I was tired and didn't want to get up for my normal 6-hour start, and I simply didn't want to be disappointed again if the problem was back. But so far I have experienced no problems bouncing around in the Forum (8-, 11- and 2-hours). This is a huge improvement over what I experienced the last two weeks when every session with GT was ultimately interrupted/terminated with a fateful 'click'.

Right now I'm pretty optimistic and very relieved...I spend a lot of early morning hours on GT and the interruption and distraction was depressing. Maybe one of those solar flares burned somebody's butt at the troubled Tier 1 provider. :D

Fingers crossed. I had the same problem in mid-March but it lasted just a day or two and went away. Hopefully all this is gone away for a long time.

I'm out of town until tomorrow night and I'll report then, but as I've said only one of my computers was not loading GT. In fact even in my travels this week browsing GT, it works perfectly.
I'll let you know.
