Please check out my latest video, which shows all the parts onscreen at once: http://youtu.be/urz173o4OpQ

The entire song written from one idea, which is found in the opening riff. If you’re interested in classical composition techniques being used in rock, you might find it interesting to listen to and watch, as the video includes onscreen notes about the variations

Randy,

dude that was awesome. Great work. I can't even imagine where you began to create this piece. And everything sounds completely professional.

Also, I gotta ask you: what do you use to split the screen like that, record everything on top of each other, and make the sound so professional sounding? Is it all included in some kind of software? I'm completely new to recording like this, so i'm pretty clueless.

Thanks Rusty!

I use PowerDirector and Sony Movie Studio Platinium to assemble the footage. When filming, I play to the mp3 with a click track going so it's easier to line up the footage with the mp3 (using the footage's click track as a guide).

For the sound, I record using ProTools with electronic drums, a Peavey Triple XXX amp, my custom guitars, and of course I send everything to a real studio for mixing and mastering. I also do re-amping, which you can read about here: http://randyellefson.wordpress.com/2014/01/27/how-to-re-amp-guitars/
