Committed more this time
For years I have been trying to learn but get frustrated and busy and then I quit. I am now committed to learn more and practice more. I have gotten better over the last month than the last 5 years just by being more committed.

Congratulations on your progress. Keep up the good work. The more you practice, the better you play; the better you play, the more you enjoy it.

Hi Steve,
I am a 40+ learner who has tried and gotten frustrated before. I am looking for others in the community who may want to provide mutual support on this journey to work through any frustration. Glad to hear you have gotten so much out of the last month of practicing! I have been trying to go at more solidly for the past few months and have seen some gains and some plateaus along the way. I particularly enjoyed the recent addition of the beginner lesson of Little Wing by Hendrix.
Best,
Daniel

Hi Steve,
Would certainly welcome the accountability. I do not have a "live" teacher, so some accountability would certainly help with self-teaching through GT and online resources. What are your goals for the week?
Cheers,
Daniel

There was a thread created a while ago called "mission of the month". The idea was you would state your goals for that month and then report back on your progress. It sort of didn't go anywhere, but you could either revive that thread or create a similar one.
I you have the capability, making recordings and posting them can really give yourself a sense of accountability. If you don't have the capability to record, you should add that to your list of goals because listening to recordings of yourself playing is a very useful tool in improving your playing. When you are frustrated, you may very well discover that you sound better than you think!

One other thing to realize is that the better you get, the more you start to understand how muscle memory works. Once you do, it becomes obvious how you should practice certain things. As long as you can imagine what you want to do in your mind, you can do it. You just have to start really f-ing slow at first! And sometimes it sucks. But if you just stick to repetition, it's impossible not to get better. And then it's awesome!
