Sounds like a good idea! Are you mac or pc? What kinds of things would you like to do with an audio editing program?

pc. I have a few songs that I have written (chords only I do not read music). I make many mistakes while accompanying myself with my guitar. for instance I have a hard time starting when I fingerpick. I get more rhythmic as I proceed. I would like to take out these beginnings if possible. also, I would like to add different instruments if that is possible.

actually two of these songs are on utube if anyone is interested in hearing them. they are specifically about my hometown and are designed for those that grew up there also. since only a few of my friends have ever played I get away with my blunders (which you will notice are many). they are iisted under 'the mines of charleroi' and 'going back to charleroi' by wink mccormick

Hey Wink, sounds great! I really enjoyed your songs.

Check out Presonus Studio One Free - it's an entry level audio editing/recording program that might fit the bill for you. The best part is that it is free!!

You'll be able to edit your performances as well as add other instruments if you choose.

Let me know how it goes!

I use http://www.reaper.fm/

Works great and is very reasonable in cost. But you can try it fully functional for a long time.

ill tell you guys I really appreciate your help. I have downloaded the reaper program and it is very nice but i am afraid that at 66 yrs I don't have enough time left to learn how to do this lol. this is rather complicated and although im sure that it can be learned but like I said I don't know if I have enough time left to do so. I might be better off finding someone with experience. thank you i appreciate your kindness

on a good note however, I have repaired more than one of these audio boards and switcher systems. they are actually not that difficult. after you get passed the main systems all of the different track units are merely repeats of each other component wise.

Wendell, I'm 65 (will be 66 in July) and I am learning Reaper. it is an excellent program and you can try it free for some number of months. It's one of those programs that if all you want to do is some basic editing that's all the further that you need to delve into it. Then if you want to learn to do more advanced stuff you can.

Spend a couple bucks and get this book: Home Recording for Beginners:
http://www.amazon.com/Home-Recording-Beginners-Geoffrey-Francis/dp/1598638815/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394028417&sr=8-1&keywords=home+recording+for+beginners&tag=lhitecom-20

There are also a bunch of "how to" videos on Reaper. Most of them on Youtube. And their user forum is hugely helpful. Here is their "newbie" forum: http://forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31. Very helpful and they have been very tolerant of my stupid questions.

Good luck!

Guitars: 2014 PRS Santana, 2013 PRS Paul's, 2009 PRS Hollowbody I, 1972 Gibson ES-325, 2012 Fender American Standard Stratocaster,  2020 Fender Telecaster, 2001 PRS Santana SE,  2021 Martin M-36, 2021 Martin 000-15M, Seagull S6 Classic, 2012 Yamaha Pacifica  Amps: Fender Blues Junior III, Boss Eband JS-10,  Line 6 POD HD500X, Quilter Microblock 45 w/homemade 12" cab.

Wendell, don't let all the knobs and buttons and faders intimidate you. When you open up any audio editing program, it looks like a lot. Sure, it kind of is intimidating but here's a key bit of info: All a recording interface (or actual mixing board) is, is the same thing repeated.

Say for instance you open a program and it is set to be a '24 channel' board, it's just the same set up but repeated 24 times.

That's nearly it (save for a master volume and a few other things).

After that, each 'channel' of the board is nothing more than a sliding volume knob (fader), an EQ and a way to add audio tricks (effects).

I mean, not to be foolish, people go to college and get degrees in recording, mixing and mastering so there can be a lot to learn but in the simplest terms, it's not much more than our home stereos in the 70's that had a volume knob, Low/Mid/Hi 'tone' knobs....and if you were crazy, you bought and external graphic EQ.

I am a big fan of the Recording Revolution and Graham is super-awesome and presents stuff that is not intimidating at all.
