Put it this way: Marshall stacks sound awesome at full blast, there is a reason why they are so well known. If you play yours full balst at anything other than an outdoors concert, you are not going to hear it because your eardrums will be blown. If you mainly play in your room, or just jams with friends, you're never going to get the most out of your stack, and so it is not worth the price. You'd probably get a lot more worth out of, say, a 40 or 50 watt amp that sounds nice quiet, than a full stack.

Marshall actually also makes 50 and 60Watt heads, but the reality is that these won't sound that much quieter than a 100Watt version. And the thing about Marshalls sounding nice at high volumes only used to be true for their older models, but with their newer models, it seems like they sound pretty decent at any volume.
I think Marshall is worth the price, IF you live in Europe. But I do think it is completely useless to buy a full stack. There is no situation in which you would need 2 4X12's.(unless you never use a PA at gigs, and have a fetish about getting deaf real quickly)

Nate, what do you plan on doing with this gear, what kind of music do you play and what particular model/wattage are you looking at?

in my band we play everything from alternative to oldies. we have a pa system but we don't have any floor moniters. so i stuggle to hear myself. so i was thinking about getting a marshall stack( not full stack cause i can't afford it) i've only glanced at the amp so i really don't know what it is, but i am going there today so i'll be able to tell u in a little while. but i'll use it for my own personal use and for my band.

You've got a problem that alot of people have today, choice overload, their are so many choices today that it's hard to decide what to get, I'll give you a little food for thought, whats the biggest place you'll play and whats the smallest? How much flexibilty in your sound and your set-up will you need, what about transportation and storage space, take a look at the pros&cons of the different set-ups, and by the way have you tried an extension cabinent on your current rig?

i guess i really won't need a stack for a year. beacuase thats when we will start really movin around. and i haven't even thought about an extention cab. that would probably be the best thing to do. i can easily move my equipment aroung with my truck, so thats not a problem. storage isn't either. but i do think your right, there are a lot of choices and a lot of things to consider. the stack i was looking at ( just in case u wanted to know) has a AVT15OH Valvestate 150-watt 4-channel head, 4/12 slant cab, and a 4/12 staight cab(both 200 watts). all thats for $1,569. it would fulfill all the needs i have. but man is it expensive. thx for the advise and tell me what u think about the stack.
