I just spent an hour trying to google the lyrics to the song "I will follow you into the dark" and trying to mark in the corresponding chords with the lyrics. I finally gave up and just used the chords from google rather than the ones the Guitar Tricks instructor taught. So why did I pay for a year with Guitar Tricks. If i have to go through this with every song because the lyrics and chords are never posted with the lesson then there is no benefit of being a member here.

The chords are in the notation. So I am puzzled that you didn't find them there.

We don't post the lyrics, but so far we haven't had a whole lot of complaints about that. So we'll consider that for the future, but so far it hasn't come up. I believe we would actually need a separate license for that (weird, I know) so if other people want the lyrics, please speak up in this thread and we can look into that.

Yup...chords are shown in Tabs & Notation.

Yup...it's always been my belief that providing lyrics requires (another) license.

Yup...I'd love to see lyrics presented with the chords; either incorporated in the notation or done as so many of the 'lyrics' sites do. I put together my own fake books and the thought of GT-approved lyric and chord sheets all in the same style and format is a happy one! If I could print them...another license?

I cant belive I am the only one with this problem. ....yes i see that the chords are with the notation. but how do i know where the chords fit with the lyrics? the only way is to google the song and print the lyrics, then, continually stop and start your video while I write the chords into where they fit with the lyrics. it's very time consuming for every song. ...and as for a licence to print the lyrics? that doesn't really make sense, you are singing them here and teaching the song.

Tracy,

I've subscribed to two other guitar sites similar to this one and neither one had lyrics included with the tabs. This isn't that big of a deal for me (and maybe others?) because 1) I can sing, and 2) I can't do anything else while I'm concentrating on playing guitar. Ha, I noticed one time that I stopped chewing my gum when I was playing. Maybe I stopped breathing too....lol

Did you check out your song here:
http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/search.php?search_type=title&value=I+will+follow+you+into+the+dark

I think once you learned the guitar part and you're able to play along with the actual recording of the song (from Spotify for example), then you should be able to sing along with it and sync up the chords with the lyrics.

Tracy --

When you Google/Bing for a song's chords, Search For: (song title chords), the hits will almost always come up with the chord name properly placed within/over the lyrics.

The very first hit listed for such a search, "I Will Follow You Into the Dark chords" resulted in a very nice graphic of the lyrics with chords, notes on the intro and playing hints. There are many such returns from my Bing search.

The big issue is accuracy. Song chords/tabs found on the 'net are notoriously inaccurate and often appear in different keys. Different versions of the same song are found on the same web site. Sometimes the chords agree with those being taught by GT...but maybe not.

It's not what you're asking for, i.e., lyrics and chords published by GT. I'd like that too...a bunch! But searching for song chords works quite nicely compared to what you've described. It's not a biggie to transpose/correct chords to match GT or some other source on whichever page you choose to print (assuming a modicum of accuracy on the web page). That's how I build my fake books.

I would find it helpful to include lyrics, so its all in one place synchronized with notation and it helps me in learning some songs. They are fairly easy to find elsewhere, a lot of band web sites provide their lyrics, but not with notation. I'm sure you know its quite easy singing along to a song, until you try and play it and sing without the lyrics in front of you karaoke style. As with the guitar parts if you don't have the lyrics and their timing well memorized it wont flow together and you wont be able to embellish your own style into the song. So for me lyrics are very important to learn along with guitar parts.

As a small critic, I don't really like them included in backing or jam along tracks, as I like to do them myself or with a singer once at that point.

Perhaps Tracey a Tab Pro type subscription may help you in this aspect, as a companion to Guitar Tricks, as I believe the "live" person/guitar demonstration is critical in learning techniques, that cant be fully conveyed in tabs, and next best to real live lessons, which many of us cant afford

Hi Tracy, Sorry I was wrong I guess Tab Pro doesn't have the lyrics either, Guitar Pro- MySongBook, does include lyrics in score with tab and notation for all instruments and you can print song, but you pay for each song $2-$3, that can add up fast, but may still be worth the cost and to support the artists also, if you are just learning Guitar Tricks is still worth having as well I've played for over 40 years, and having near one on one instruction at your leisure is still great, compared to old school going for a 1 hour lesson a week, nowadays I think its over $30/hour for lessons

John if you could get lyrics and melody lines that would be great. I still buy sheet music for this purpose even when I learn a song off of our videos. For example I am working on the vocal melody line for let it be out of a tab book. I have Anders arrangement down and need to work on the melody line.

However I can't buy sheet music for everything $$$$$ like Pearl Jam and Better than Ezra.

Jingle Bell rock is a perfect example of a song with the lyrics and melody line would have helped a lot.

Going by memory right now I thought Lisa put the melody line to Wild World.

Baby I love your way is another I had to go to a separate site for the lyrics

Not to single you out and please take no offense but this is a guitar site. All songs are broken down into guitar parts--they don't cover the organ, or the drums or piano or anything else. The singing is just not a guitar part. Once you assume that fact and just learn the guitar parts, you'll be a better guitarist who understands how guitarists communicate. I would think lyrics could be burdensome to guitar player/teachers who are trying to get us to follow their cues by notes, tabs and the calling of song sections by terms like leads, rhythm etc rather than verses and choruses or bridges. The absence of lyrics never occurred to me. Similar is JamPlay. You probably won't find lyrics in the written guitar parts.

Just reviewed the thread for the first time this morning, and my own thoughts were in line with Terranaut's. The current "Songs" structure gives me the opportunity to learn the guitar parts to songs I love and wish I could play.

I would only add this. Most of the Guitar Tricks Instructors, Andres in particular, stress making the lick or the song your own. While commuting to work, I hear groups like Tom Perry, Aerosmith, Van Halen, etc. doing "covers" of great classic songs. I don't need to look at the screen to identify either the song or the group. Aerosmith's cover of "Come Together" is a perfect example.

My version of "Let It Be" will never sound like Caren Armstrong or Anders Mouridsen, let alone The Beatles; however my own guitar playing is enriched because I learned to play it on Guitar Tricks. And my voice is terrible, anyway :)

I'd like to see lyrics and chords with the lessons on GT. I do go to another site to get them now, but the convenience of having them in one spot would be great.
