for instance I have an older fender squire that I got second hand, this was made at a time when korean luthers were under japanese tutalige and is not an american custom strat but is pretty dang decent. I would use it on stage have had no issues with it other then plastic nut broke and got replaced with bone.

Anyone else out there with older equipment?

I have a squier Stratocaster guitar that I love, I have no idea what model it is as I bought it second hand and the decal had been removed but you could still just about make out it said squire. I changed the bridge saddles and string trees, full new electrics and pickups plus a full set up and it's now my favourite guitar

Hahaha OH YEAH!

I love vintage stuff.

I have an Ibanez TS-9 from the 80's. An MXR Flanger from the 70's. An Ibanez acoustic, handmade in Japan in the 80's etc.

I just think that the stuff made back in the 80's have better components and sound better. That's just my taste though. :)

Blessings!

Took a look at my December MT PBS magazine last night and it had a promo for "Antiques Roadshow". The spotlight was on the $4000-$5000 appraisal of an 1899 Martin "stumbled upon in a vacant commercial real estate space."

Wow...that's the kind of vintage equipment I'd like to have! But we don't have that kind of vacant commercial space in my neighborhood although I've got the stumbling part down pat. :)

I had two guitars from the 60's; a cheapie Harmony acoustic that almost broke me it was so hard to play as a beginner and a Kapa electric bought when my lessons introduced me to barre chords ( http://uniqueguitar.blogspot.com/2010/02/kapa-guitars.html -- I bought both guitars from, and took lessons in, the store owned by the guy that started the Kapa guitars and company). Both guitars are gone now. The sole vintage survivor is a Framus Texan acoustic bought in 1970 in Germany for $35. It was my 'good' guitar and my only one until three years ago.

Funny to hear Kapa mentioned. That was my first electric guitar - black with a white pick guard. I got it used back in 1983. Later on I bought a Peavey Special used to plug it in.

I can remember polishing that guitar constantly - I was so happy to have my own electric guitar. It was a love/hate relationship though because of the teardrop shape...I couldn't play it sitting down. Its sound also paled in comparison to my friend's Les Paul deluxe with P90's. Everybody else had "cooler" gear, so I felt self concious about my unique guitar. My true desire was a Fender Strat with a maple fretboard.

Sadly my brother destroyed the Kapa guitar imitating Pete Townsend with it and smashing it after I moved out of the house. He knew I really didn't like the guitar and thought he'd have some fun :-(.

Now that I'm older and wiser, I wonder what that guitar would sound and feel like today. At the time I didn't mind him smashing it, but I wish it was still around today for the nostalgia.

Yeah...I'd like to have my Kapa back. My Mother said, "I'm cleaning house the guitar has to go." I wasn't even in the country so off the guitar went.

There's a Kapa Facebook group with pics and stories and lots and lots of rehab projects...

Haha!

I just pulled out an old Boss GT-3 Pedal Board and realized it has some pretty cool, "forgotten about" sounds on it. Thinking of writing a song with a couple. It even does synth sounds, which is pretty cool, but I don't think I'd ever actually use em.
