I really hate humbuckers anymore. I want to replace the humbucker in my epiphone les paul jr. with a p-90. I really don't care if I have to "ghettofy" it. I'll probably get the soapbar I believe its called that has two screws twards the middle of pickup. I know p-90's are oddly shapped, but are they too small or big for a humbucker type slot? Any help is appriciated thanks.

Wow, don't usally see this kind of a swap, can't say it won't work, but it might not be pretty. I would advise that the "Soapbar" P-90, is probaly not the way to go, the soapbar is just a P-90 in a small rectangular plastic cover and the hole thats routed in your guitar for the humbucker is too wide and deep and this would be a major project to mount the soapbar, but an alternative you could try is to use the "Dog Ear" cover for the P-90, it's the larger cover that you see on Leslie West's LP Jr., it's a little wider and longer and it might bridge that humbucker cavity, you could order just the cover or maybe get the measurements off the web somewhere, and compare that to your guitar and see if it will work. Another alternative is a P-90 "voiced humbucker sized pick-up, I think Seymour Duncan makes one, might be worth a try? Let us know how it works out, and good luck

Appendix A, I went to http://www.seymourduncan.com
check out the Antiquity P-90's, they may sale an adapter type of mounting ring with their pick-up, email them and find out.........

[isn't 9k a bit high for a 90?..oh well..]

other manufacturers have them..memory escapes me again..

If i'm thinking about pickups it must be time to lie down.

Yours VERY Intermitently...don't ask! :D

Well...not much guitar or computer wise really....but, i have genuine excuses such as my car needed new suspension and electirical bits for the MOT (roadworthiness) test I was able to do it myself with a little help ,but it took 2 weeks fergawdsake, and I also helped a neighbour out with her car..so a lot of motoring mundanity under the bridge.
On the guitar front I have got a new little Vox Cambridge (15 Watt with a 12ax7 in the preamp)..and it sounds a heck of a lot better than the other "amps" i've had.I'm also trying to improve my playing standing up (lol) and i'm practicing speed excersizes as i dont always want to play at John Lee Hooker speeds..:)

How about you, have you got anything interesting in the pipeline?

Cheers.

Cars? a blessing or a curse? I've been trying to get some things done around the shack here, getting ready to help my son build some kind of instument for a school project, this should be interesting, I'd like to build another guitar but I'm holding out, waiting for a new amp to come out......

Cars are both, mate! I think I might get a bicyle again..
have to knock back the cigarettes tho..

Just think how cool it'll be for your son to have a guitar he made himself -[probably 70% Dad tho,right?]-

Ok i'll guess that the amp is going to be in the vein of a Plexi Marshall? and the guitar will eventually be..*consults crystal ball*..A Tele ..with P90s..string thru..

How'd I do?,cheers.

Oh, draw a mustache on the Mona Lisa, I've had my run in with P90's, not my cup of tea, Plexi Sound, I hope , I've been on a quest for a 20 watt or less amp that has some tonal flexibility and a hope of seeing old age that doesn't go for a boutiqe amp price and I think I've found a likely canidate, Reverend is making a smaller version of their 40/60 Hellhound, 15/5watts, 6V6's, just waiting for it to come out.... My son & I building something that resembles a musical instument, well it's going to be interesting...

I thought you liked p90s..Okey diddly dokey..I KNOW you aint worried by what name a good peice of gear goes by so you may want to check out small Laneys such as the LC15R, all valve, good value and Sounds BIG [yes, you can get it to sound small as well].. if I had more money i'd have got this (not surprisingly) it anihilated a 30 Watt ss Fender..you could probably mod it to retain the pertickler valves you like

http://www.omegamusic.co.uk/depts/amps/review/lc15r.htm

One of many a great review and it's the ONLY amp I liked better than my Vox.

Yeah, I do like the sound some people get out of P90's, I just ain't one of those people, I think you have to be born with it, I'll keep my eyes open for one of those Laney's, always looking for a better mousetrap.......
