I just completed my 1000th hour of practice since joining Guitar Tricks about a year and a half ago. My original goal was to reach 1000 hours in one year but life got in the way and averaging three hours a day just wasn't practical.

I'm not as good as I was hoping to be but now have skills and knowledge of the guitar that I'll never lose. Speed is still a little slow (which is a bit frustrating), but I know some songs, have the major and minor diatonic and pentatonic scales down, and understand how a lot of the sounds I've listened to over the years are created. It is especially fun to learn a song, follow the instruction and recreate that sound I am so familiar with (albeit, not always as clean, LOL).

I've completed Rock I and II, and am about halfway through Blues II. Next will be Country, then back to Rock and Blues to catch what was missed the first time.

Also, enjoy all the links and ideas from the other folks on the forum.

Thanks to GT and everyone else who participates. You really can learn to play (even at 53) if you just follow the plan!

Way to go Toddst! Life sure does get in the way, of course I don't have as many hours as you because of it. I do try to play each and every day that I can, even if it's for 10 minutes. I have come such a long way with GT since I began, it's amazing!

What a great accomplishment! Thanks for telling us.

You know...we just released a new rock level 1, so when you come back to it, it will be brand new :)

That's awesome to hear.

My thing I do to get some extra practice time in is keep my guitar hand while watching tv. I don't watch a lot if tv, but if you watch and hour long program and knoodle it's better than not touching the guitar at all. If you just practise during commercials, you can get in an extra 18 - 20 min per hour long show.

Great work on reaching that 1000 hour goal.

I don't have a way to record at this time. Probably should look into that. In any case I probably enjoy playing the songs more than you would enjoy listening to them, LOL! If I find a way to record and feel like putting my junk out there I'll post. Thanks for the interest.

I do this often working on technical stuff like scales and speed where you don't have to be really into the tune or effects. Any little bit helps
