I'm a beginner acoustic guitar player. Can someone tell me where the best place on the web is to find easy melodies/songs in tab? I love what they do here, but they tend to split melodies over several screens...never showing a whole song. Any advice is appreciated.

I don't have any advice as to where to find complete songs. But since you're playing acoustic guitar you should check out Lisa McCormick's fingerpicking series. Its like twice the bang for your practice buck, because you're learning new chords but also learning how to finger pick as well... you'll find that you get a lot of "wow that sounds cool" factor for the effort you put in.

Because you are new, when you check out her series, make sure you know at least one chord first, and can play it without any buzzing or dead notes. So for instance, if she says "this song has the chords Am, C, G..." start with the Am chord, make sure you can play it, then learn the fingerpicking pattern. Then learn the rest of the chords, again, just so you can strum them cleanly. Finally, go through the chord changes with the fingerpicking pattern VERY SLOWLY, as slow as you need to so that you don't make mistakes.

Remember, you can take a break from learning the chords & changes and focus just on the fingerpicking pattern. She'll have you sounding like a pro in no time!

Good luck!

I only took a peek at classical lessons, so I can't say. But the rest of the lessons I've done are complete based on my experiences with music lessons. Music lessons tend to focus on brief examples meant to be studied and explored, sometimes leading to whole songs at the end of the lessons.

The song lessons? All complete, usually note for note, pick stroke to pick stroke deep, nothing missing thus far.

However, I do supplement songs not covered on GT with tab from Songsterr. They have lesson tabs too, but I haven't looked at those, there's enough lessons here to keep me busy for the rest of my life!

Be very careful as most tabs are FULL OF MISTAKES!

I would recommend buying good songbooks instead as those would be written by professionals and checked a hundred times before sending to print.

I have actually been playing guitar for a long time, but never learned the basics properly. What I am trying to say is when I am watching a lesson video and they say this is the 4 chord or this is the 5 chord I have no idea what they are talking about. I am trying to retrain myself starting from the very basic beginning since all this technology is available now. Music is my passion and my sanctuary. Thanks for any help and where to find that kind of lesson.

Take a look at Lisa's course, "UNLEASH THE MAGIC of CHORD THEORY" which starts here, http://www.guitartricks.com/tutorial.php?input=997 .
"It takes a lot of devotion and work, or maybe I should say play, because if you love it, that's what it amounts to. I haven't found any shortcuts, and I've been looking for a long time."
